I’ve read AV Forum posts about “Works with Sonos” doesn’t work when a Sonos network reaches 6 devices. In effect, if a customer has architectural speakers as surrounds in multiple locations in their residence, having a like number of Sonos Ports along with Sonos Speakers (Arc, Beam, Era 300s, Subs) , any number of devices 6 or greater creates “No Longer Works with Sonos”.

As there are multiple AVR vendors who have “Works with Sonos” certification, are they all affected by this issue? Technically, what is the issue? Is it a Sonos/App/Networking issue? Is it an AVR vendor issue? Is Sonos working with these AVR vendors to resolve?

As I understand it any limitation is on the AVR side and not the Sonos side.

The receiver which is associated to a Sonos device, joins the multicast network and filters for events of interest for the associated Sonos device, such as play, to power up and select the correct input.

The Sonos device limitation will depend on the AVR processing power and how much multicast traffic it can handle and filter before it is overloaded. As the number of Sonos devices on a network increases the volume of multicast traffic needing to be processed increases.

Your best bet would be to contact the Avr manufacturer, or drop a query on their forums.

There is a related query here around a Sony receiver and the integrator asking also updates the thread with the response received from Sony.

TY. I’ve already initiated a pre-sales support request with Sony by they haven’t responded as of yet.

My thought to resolve the issue is for Sony engineering (or other AVR mfg) to include the ability to add the Sonos Port MAC address to the Network/Works with Sonos feature, the AVR could just listen for that address and discard unused traffic.
