Morning all. Hoping I can get some direction on this one please.

Got lots of Sonos, all S2 and all amplified to decent in-ceiling speakers. Works a treat, always has.

But I’m adding a new room. Essentially a home cinema room with the normal speakers, SW, large TV, AVR etc. I’ve plugged in a new Port via RCA to the SAT I/P.

It works but sounds a bit meh.

I’m not trying get any cinema type functionality, just good sound, stereo, surround, anything really.

Is there a rule of thumb or best practice for settings an AVR to get a decent sound out? It just doesn’t sound great.

The AVR itself is old but a solid performer …. A Pioneer VSA-AX10Ai feeding B&W Matrix fronts & rears and a B&W ASW800 sub.

Well you certainly have a beast of an AVR, a solid performance giver but let’s not rule it out totally. Ensure you are testing with a stereo direct / pure mode on the Pioneer.

Fix the volume on the port and use the volume control on the Pioneer.

Try a different analogue in port such as tape and perhaps different leads.

Test using both the digital outputs from the port

beyond that… another manufacturers streamer.

Cheers Belly. I suspect it’s me and the settings. I have two of these ….. one feeds the outside speakers and one the home cinema. Both were bought from new back in 2001 but both gave up on my about 3 years back. They have at last been repaired but I’ve forgotten how to get the best out of them settings wise I think.

Yes this is good advice and I had not tried the digital O/P.

The one feeding the outside Evids is doing an OK job but lacking low end, the inside one a lot less so.

Thanks for the steer will try those options this evening.
