My Sonos amp is connected to my Sony tv via the Arc HDMI port, but it doesn’t recognize it.  I also have an Arc sound bar and it is connected via another HDMI port.  What do I need to do to get my tv HDMI arc port to recognize there is something there?

Hi @BNBMove, welcome to the Sonos Community!

Sorry to hear that you’re having issues using your Sonos Amp with your TV.

Many TV’s will automatically select the audio device connected to the HDMI-ARC/eARC port to be used as their output device, disabling TV speakers and any other output device. Though this should mean it’ll default to the Sonos Amp if it’s connected to the ARC port, not the Sonos Arc which isn’t.

My first recommendation is to disconnect the Arc from the TV and just leave the Amp connected to see if that works. If so, you’ll need to manually change the TV speaker output to the Amp when both devices are connected.

A question I do have: is there a reason you’re connecting multiple Home Theater devices to your TV? You’ll need to keep adjusting the TV settings to swap between the two devices depending which you’d like to use at the time. While I can’t recommend any specific model, a HDMI switch seems to be the solution for you here.

I don’t know of any TV’s which have multiple HDMI-ARC ports, so more than likely one of your devices is connected to a plain old HDMI port and won’t be able to receive the TV audio (ARC is Audio Return Channel).

I also have to ask what you are trying to achieve by connecting two audio devices to the TV?

I recommend disconnecting all HDMI cables from the TV and powering down AMP and the TV for at least two minutes. Next, power up ARC and TV. After the TV and ARC have fully booted, connect the HDMI cable between ARC and the TV’s HDMI-ARC port.  Here are some SONY troubleshooting steps.

Only one HDMI-ARC connection is available on the TV.
