It should be made clear that the Sonos Alexa interface is very limited. The sonos speaker will not control any Alexa smart devices or skills. After months of trying to get 3 Alexa enabled Sonos to work i now have an email from Amazon to confirm that smart devices cannot be controlled using the 3rd party speakers. :-(

Having uninstalled and reinstalled the Echo.Alex app, sonos system and smart things app and all plugs and lights i had a eureka moment.
When reinstalling alexa it remembers your smart skills. Despite disabling and and later reenabling these this didn't work. So i uninstalled all smart skills first and then reset alexa from scratch as a new device and reinstalled all the skills. This time it worked and sonos now controls the plugs
