Same here, since the update a couple of days ago both of my Sonos One’s play Alexa way too loud relative to normal levels. Even with music level at zero Alexa will blast out at a high level.
Same goes if I do ‘Hey Sonos’.
Not found a fix yet.
Thanks for the reply, andyinleeds. It was helpful.
I called the help desk at sonos before posting, but the following two answers were given, so I asked the question here just in case. It looks like I'll have to restrict usage for a while and see what happens.
(1) No firmware updates have been performed recently.
(2) I think the WIFI settings at home are affecting the problem.
If firmware is the cause, Sonos should definitely look back at the May incident and do a thorough release inspection.
I wake up every morning with the alexa setting for news and music, but the news was loud and disturbed my wife and children.
It is sad.
Spent a good while on the phone and I’ve supplied a video/audio for engineering with the relative levels of the Alexa/’Hey Sonos’ voice when main audio is both at 30 (fine) and at 1 (too loud), so I’ll see how far I get.
Same Problem with sonos One
Sonos OS: S2
Version : 16.4.4 (numéro 81158210)
Version matérielle : 1.21.1.8-2.1
No improvement after factory reset
maybe one day we'll be able to set response volume level (Sonos Voice Control )
Same here in Austria with Sonos one. Talked an hour with support and tried everything. Removed Alexa, removed Sonos skill in Alexa app, disabled Sonos speakers in Alexa app, removed volume Limit, restartet Modem and Router, resettet Sonos one, unplugged all Sonos products from power, changed different settings in alexa app, tried Sonos voice control and Google Assistent. Didn't changed anything. With this loudnes, the voice assistents are useless. This is ridiculous...
Ditto: since app update to 80.11.33 which updated speakers to 81.1-58210 Alexa screams at me. My "good morning" routine is essentially useless because the volume is WAY too loud for my bedroom. WTF?
I have same issue with Sonos Beam Gen 1. Started with their software update on 31 October. Have done a complete factory reset but no change to issue.
Dear SONOS Support
We would like to thank you for your continued support.
We would appreciate it if you could provide us with specific information regarding the above situation and whether you are taking any action within your company.
Same issue here. Let’s hope Sonos fixes this asap
Same issue with my Beam since a few days… :(
I have the same issues with alexa‘s volume not bound to the general volume. Very annoying.
Same issue here with beam and play 1
Same issue here with Sonos One. Alexa has been loud for about two weeks. I can't control her volume along with the music volume. C’mon Sonos. Sort it out.
Same issue across several Sonos Ones. The 'bloing' noise in response to wake word is at the correct volume, but all responses from Alexa (including the acknowledgement 'dee-doo' when turning off a light) are at about volume 4, which is much too high - and doesn't seem to change with volume settings.
My Echo hasn't changed, this is a Sonos issue.
Hi @payapaya et al
Welcome to the Sonos Community!
Thanks for flagging. We are currently investigating reports of Alexa and Google Assistant being too loud as compared to the volume of the speaker.
We don’t have an estimate for when a fix will be made available, but I will update this thread when it is. In the meantime, you can cease troubleshooting.
Thank you for your patience.
Hi Sonos Corry P.
Thank you for taking the time to reply.
I feel much better knowing that Sonos is aware of this issue and is looking into it, and that I can avoid hours of pointless trial and error.
We are waiting for an early resolution and hope to hear from you soon.
I am sure there are many users who are troubled by this kind of problems,
I expect further information sharing and improvement through the support desk and WEB.
I believe this will lead to the recovery of the value of Sonos.
Since yesterday!?, the alexa voice assistant on the sonos device is louder.
Even with the sonos volume set to 1, alexa announces loudly.
The music volume can be changed as before from the app or alexa.
This has occurred on several of my sonos devices and not on the amazon device.
Also, this event is not cured by unlinking or signing out/in between sonos and amazon.
Is there a solution?
Am I the only one experiencing this?
Ahhh yees!! Finally i've found fellow louders, i've seen old posts for it but not this recent so thanks, glad Sonos are aware! I came down in the morning last week and burst an ear drum
Good to know Sonos is aware of this issue and working on a fix.
I’m having the same issue with Google Assistant on my Sonos Arc & One speakers. It started after updating the system to firmware version 81.1-58210.
Next to this, I also noticed that the volume controls via GA are not always correct. Asking GA to set volume to level ‘3’ should result in ‘30%’ but actual result is only ‘3%’. Same for volume levels 5 (5% instead of 50%) and 10 (10% instead of 100%). The other volume levels 1,2,4,6,7,8,9 are all okay.
Please also fix this. Thanks!
Glad I found this thread.. I asked Alexa to change a radio station last night at 11pm and woke the entire house!
Looking forward to a fix
This has been driving me mad for a couple of weeks or more now and I couldn't find others in the first place. I've 5x Sonos One all with the same problem.
For example if I want to listen to some music from Spotify then it shouts out at stupidly loud volume what it is playing. This is so much worse when it's late night or early morning sleep/wake up music.
The Alexa function is currently unusable, I may as well just use the app. I'm not going to spend more time on the phone to reset everything when someone must have changed something for it to be doing this.
Fix the problem Sonos, I've invested a lot in you.
I’ve been trying everything for the past few weeks to correct the issue with Alexa’s voice being too loud and no way to lower it. I’m glad I found this thread. I have no issue controlling the volume of music or podcasts whether it’s on my phone app or directly using the Sonos One volume controls. It’s only Alexa’s voice that is fixed in volume. This never used to be an issue and the volume of Alexa’s voice could be raised or lowered by voice command “Alexa volume 1 (or whatever number through 10), or directly on the Sonos One.
Sonos, please correct this for your loyal customers.
Same problem, drives me crazy!
Hi Corry P Sonos Staff,
Do you have news ?
Is not possible to rollback with old firmware ?
Thanks
Hi @Nicolas4Music
Sorry - I don’t get news. One day it will be fixed, and you may well know about it before I do. I will update this thread once it is, however.
No, it is not possible to rollback firmware.
I hope this helps.
