Hey all,

I've recently moves and had to get a LTE router. The Sonos One and Roam SL I had before won't connect to the router though.

I understand from the support team, that LTE routers are not supported but  I read in some comments that people use them successfully.

I did split 2,4GHz and 5GHz and also checked rest of the router settings are as suggested on the support site. However that's where my tech savviness tragically ends…

Do I need to connect a “normal” router to get it to work? Any tips would be very welcome and appreciated 🙏

Thank you!

I happen to use a T-Mobile 5G ‘router’/connection, and don’t have any issues in streaming content, either audio or video (for my TV). I suspect network latency / speed issues is the reason Sonos doesn’t support LTE connections, but I don’t work for Sonos.

Most of my experienced issues happen around connection to the cell phone tower (heavy rain, mostly), but the local router connection isn’t impacted, and no issues when listening to ‘local’ (read NAS) music, just streaming connections.

I’m still waffling around connecting my older router to the T-Mobile device. I currently don’t have the ability to assign IP reservations, since T-Mobile seems to think that is too advanced….but then I haven’t had any issues, either, and given that power where I am is somewhat variable, it resets often enough that it may not be a concern.

Were I you, I’d at least try the LTE device without your ‘normal’ router, and see how it reacts. If there are issues, just add your router, if not, you’re fine.

Hey @Airgetlam

I tried it without the router first but I always get an error message. It connects to my app just fine but when I try to connect it to the wifi it says no connection possible.

To be fair though, it also told me that just now when I connected an old router, so I am a bit stumped how I can get it to work :(

Network connection and speed are fine and I don't have any issues with any of my other devices…

So, at least temporarily, I’d connect the old router to the WAN port on the LTE router, so your Sonos assumes it is connecting (or trying to) the ‘normal’ WiFi signal. Work with Sonos Support to get connected.

Once the system is back up and running normally, try removing the ‘old’ router, and switching the LTE device to using the same connection (SSID, channel, and type of security) and see if it then connects.

I’m wondering if your LTE device has some sort of ‘filtering’ on it that is blocking the communication between the Sonos devices, and possibly your controller. Sonos does ‘use’ the network a bit differently than most other devices…but within specifications for a network.
