Question

Rear Surround and house speakers

I am setting up a new system during a remodel. I am a rookie and any advice would be much appreciated.

SETUP:

I have a Sonos beam sound bar for my family room tv. I plan to have 3 Sonos Ports driving house sound in various rooms of my house and outside through third party amp and third party in ceiling speakers.

GOAL:
I would like to use my in ceiling speakers in the family room to alternate between house sound and surround sound.

It appears a requirement to have Sonos in ceiling speakers (vs 3rd party) to connect to create surround.

QUESTIONS:

  1. Will my port/third party amp set up work for surround if I buy Sonos in ceiling speakers? (I just set up with third party speakers and it does not work). Or do I have to have both Sonos amp and Sonos in ceiling speakers?
  2. if I am able to get the above surround to work, will I be able to toggle my family room Sonos in ceiling  speakers to do surround when watching a movie then group with the rest of the house for house sound! Thanks for any feedback!

Hi @Seahawk80

Welcome to the Sonos community and thanks for letting us know about your concern. Appreciate your interest in adding Sonos products to your existing system. Let me help you with this.

You may need to have a Sonos Amp to connect to your in-ceiling speakers and use it as a surround when you're watching movies. You don't need to remove the surround to group all your Sonos devices when listening to music. You can also adjust the audio settings for your Sonos home theater’s surround speakers. We can wait for suggestions and feedback from our Sonos community members, they might provide a suggestion about this. You may also contact our sales specialist for more information.

I hope this helps. If you need help with any other information, please be sure to let us know.
