No buzz, just bass

Sonos Sub features two force-canceling drivers at the center to eliminate vibration and rattle so you get powerful bass without any distortion. It brings the same great sound as the previous Sub, with updated internals including increased memory, processing power, and a new wireless radio.

The custom-designed drivers take over the lowest frequencies for the Sonos speaker or home theater setup that Sub is bonded with, freeing up the speaker for higher highs, while the Sub handles all of the lowest lows. Connect Sub to Arc or Beam, and enjoy TV, movies, and video games like never before. Add a pair of One SL surrounds for an even more immersive home theater experience.

Some more details on Sonos Sub gen 3:

  • Simple to set-up. Plug Sub into power and bring your phone up to Sub to automatically pair and securely transfer WiFi credentials using near-field communication (NFC).

  • Flexible Orientation. Sub’s enduring design continues to fit perfectly into any space. Stand Sub upright, lay it on its side, or tuck it under the couch without any loss in sound performance.

  • Bold Bass. Frequency response plays as low as 25 Hz.

  • Tune with Trueplay. Trueplay puts the speaker-tuning capability of the pros in the palm of your hands, adapting and optimizing the sound of the speaker to the unique acoustics of the room. iOS device required.

  • Dimensions. The dimensions are (H x W x D)15.3 x 6.2 x 15.8 inches (389 x 158 x 402 mm) and Sub weighs 36.3 lb (16 kg).

Similarly, I bought the Gen 2 only last week and was unsure whether I should exchange with the Gen3 for an additional £130. Spoke to a Sonos rep today and he advised I should stick with the  gen2 at the cheaper price as the only advantage of the gen 3 is future proofing. Food for thought.

I too just purchased the Sonos Gen 2 Subwoofer a couple of month ago, and I’m not about to purchase the latest one, because it was so expensive. I just pre-ordered the Sonos Arc, hopefully I’ll get mine sooner than everybody else. 🙂

Why don’t you rely on Sonos’ own site instead of some inaccurate third party.

Looks like Best Buy accidentally put out the box dimensions rather than product dimensions?

That’s possible, the dimensions of the Sub haven’t changed from Gen 2 to Gen 3.

This is the second time I have seen this information wrongly registered with potential buyers. I read on a youtube comments section of a Sub Gen 2 review tat he also thought the Gen 3 is 20 inches x 19 inchese!

Bestbuy, come on, you can do better.

Hi,

I am also wondering why gen3 is having 2gb of RAM compared to the very low RAM of the gen2.
it is even double the RAM Arc is having…

for a so called slave device it is weird…

i really think I will return my brand new gen2 to get the gen3 and more future proof...

Where are you seeing information on the RAM of the gen 3 Sub and Arc?

It's in Features and Specs in the new product pages. I want to chalk it up to a typo but I can't imagine that it would go unnoticed by Sonos employees.

Gen3 has 256Mbs Ram. Double Gen2

Will my older Sub (Series A100; Hardware Version 1.8.2.5-1) work with the new Arc and S2?

yes

Simple setup?…. Except the supplied mains lead will not fit correctly into the sub without forcing it! Had to use a lead of my own to avoid damaging the sub frame or supplied mains lead.

Hi @Lawsonandrew, sounds like your Sub shipped with the wrong power cord. Sorry to hear about that. If you need a new power cord shipped out, the support team can help get you the right one.

Im confused, the specs for ram and hardrive is what ?

https://web.archive.org/web/20200507004920/https://www.sonos.com/en-us/shop/sub.html
says 2gb here

Hoping someone can help. I had a gen3 sub delivered last week - new, ordered direct from Sonos. Very pleased with the sound etc. But I’m concerned about the spec. The website advertises that the gen3 has 256MB RAM and flash, but this one has 128/128.

I also noticed that it seemed to have an existing room name or something in it when I set it up.

Have I been sent an older spec refurb? In the “my account” section on the website it reports as a gen3. Obviously I’m concerned about future proofing but I also don’t want to have paid full price for a refurb. Not happy that I have not been sent the spec advertised on the Sonos U.K. website

I’ve queried this directly with Europe customer services but their response time is usually greater than a week!

Is there anyone please that could comment on whether this spec is current for gen3?

Thanks for any ideas

@Ryan S are you able to advise on this please?

@Jamesk

Sadly @Ryan S is no longer employed by Sonos.

oh sorry, that is a pity!

Is there anyone else that can comment on the Sub gen3 spec?
As above, the website spec claims 256/256, but the new one I’ve just been sent has 128/128. Is this normal? I want to make sure I haven’t been sent old stock or a refurb.

Hi @Jamesk

I suggest you call and/or email Sonos for a definitive answer. I see your confusion. If you get answer would you be so kind as to post it in the community here and and as a separate topic.

Cheers!

of course. I’ve emailed, as I’m still within the 100 day return period.

Response has come back. They have apparently parsed the diag and have reported back that this sub does indeed have 25B of RAM. They wouldn’t share the whole thing but it does indeed appear to show that the Play:1s have total memory of 126916 and the sub has 250828. Slightly weird as those aren’t exactly 128 or 256 but whatever. Mostly likely explanation is that it’s a bug in the XML reporting, I guess

Anyone else with a Sub gen3 fancy trying this?

@Jamesk

Thanks for the update .

Cheers!

Hi!

I don’t know if this is a silly question, but does anyone know how many rms watts does this speaker develops?

i own 2 sonos subs,

having them connected to the play 1's play 3's and play 5's (gen 2)

--one thing is for sure. if you want the sub to kick some serious ass, just put it in a place where it resonates. check out the bass crawl technique https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4o13mNmlaA

sonos has a feature that you can in advanced audio settings turn the sub up if you feel like there isn't enough oomph there.

if you put it in a spot that resonates you will certainly hear it a lot further through the house

recommendations. when in use with the play bar believe me you need this in your life, as i said you can adjust the bass where ever needed. yes i do agree the bass at higher volumes can distort. how ever you can place this thoughtfully in your home where it resonates for volume.

No question to reply to?

Does the increased memory and CPU mean that it will be able to perform something different than the gen2?
