This question never came up in years of use but now it has (long story). Does it output in some uniform format, or does it output in whatever format the digital input was in, e.g. if mp3 then mp3, if flac then flac, etc.? I'm considering a headphone amp-+ DAC that may not accept flac. (Guess it wasn't such a long story.)

The digital out is standard pcm digital audio file. Sonos player converts the file format of the source.

All codecs decode to standard PCM. All Sonos does is decode the codec and output the PCM stream.
