Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Evo turntable with Sonos Beam (Gen 2)
Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Evo (Nogal) turntable, and I currently have a Sonos Beam (Gen 2) sound system. I have a couple of questions regarding connectivity:
From my understanding, I can't wirelessly connect the Pro-Ject Debut turntable directly to the Sonos Beam 2. Is that correct?
I’m considering purchasing the Sonos Era 300 speaker to pair with the turntable. Would this be a good option? Is there any additional equipment needed to ensure the turntable works properly with it?
If I add the Era 300 to my Sonos network, would the sound from the turntable play through the Beam 2 as well, or just the Era 300?

Yes, correct.
You would need the Line-In to USB-C adapter sold by Sonos (a generic one won’t work).
The Line-In source can be played to any an every room in your system. You can even play it to the Beam and play nothing, or another source, on the Era-100.
The Era 300 has a line in, so the only things you’ll need to connect the Pro-Ject are a phono pre-amp, appropriate cables and the Sonos 3.5mm to USB-C adapter (note generic USB-C to 3.5mm adapters won’t work as they are wired to take audio from a USB-C port out, not the other way around). My turntable is hooked up to an Era 300, stereo paired with a second one. Once done, you will be able to send the audio to any other Sonos device on your network by checking relevant speakers in the App (see below). Note if you use Era as surround speakers then the line-in is disabled.

What phono pre-amp do you recommend for this turntable? The Phono Box E?
Chances are it will match the turntable since it’s also made by Pro-ject.

Depends on budget, all of Project’s phono pre-amps are good to very good indeed and the Project Box E would be a good match as would the Rega Fono Mini A2D Mk2 which gets a lot of positive reviews for a ‘budget’ pre-amp. I use a Cambridge Audio Duo which also has a built in headphone amp as that is something I particularly wanted but it’s probably at the upper end price/benefit wise for a Sonos system though it does perform beautifully with wired headphones. Something around the €150 mark would seem a good balance.
