Hi all. I recently bought a turntable (Project debut carbon evo) which is connected to a pair of fives via a RCA to 3.5mm cable. It’s my first turntable so very new and still learning (more complicated than I imagined). The turntable is connected via an external pre-amp (Pro-Ject Phono Box E Phono Pre Amplifier)

As soon as I select ‘line in’ as the source in the Sonos app I get what I would describe as static/white noise from the right speaker connected to the line in. I do not get this from the wireless speaker. Sound quality is still generally good on playback but having heard it, it’s bugging me and it must be impairing the sound quality.  Is this normal? If not any suggestions on how to resolve? The turntable and amp are grounded and I’ve checked all connections are secure etc.

thanks

Have you checked the difference between the MM and MC settings? Maybe try the MM setting if the MC is selected and vice versa?

Check the source level for the line in on the Five.

I have no option to switch to MM/MC the pre-amp states it accepts MM cartridges so assume it’s MM only (whatever that is!) and I understand the cartridge on the debut carbon evo is a Ortofon 2m Red - MM so that shouldn’t be an issue (?)

the source level was set to 2 by default and changing it doesn’t make any difference and I’ve since set it at 8

Now looks like this is completely unrelated to the turntable. I have unplugged the speaker isolated it from everything else and streamed music to it wirelessly and still have the same issue so will be returning. The other five is fine and doesn’t have the same issue.

Glad you found the problem, sometimes a single channel issue is the 3.5 plug not being fully seated or the plug plastic blocking full insertion.
