Sonos Arc Ultra – Unable to Check for Updates

I’m looking for help with a Sonos Arc Ultra that was working normally but now cannot complete a required update.

Background

  • Arc Ultra and Sub Mini were previously working correctly via HDMI eARC.
  • TV detected the Arc Ultra properly.
  • Dolby Atmos/Dolby Digital status was visible in the Sonos app.
  • The system sat unused for several months.

Current Issue

The Sonos app immediately prompts:

“Update Required”

When I try to update, I always get:

“There was a problem checking for updates. Try again later.”

The app won’t let me access most settings because it redirects to the update screen.

Troubleshooting Performed

Network

  • Verizon FiOS internet is working.
  • Confirmed Wi-Fi internet access on iPhone.
  • Sonos system status page shows no outages.
  • Rebooted router.

Arc Ultra

  • Powers on normally with solid white LED.
  • TV audio works.
  • Appears in the Sonos app as “Living Room.”
  • Discoverable by the app with no signs of hardware failure.

Ethernet Test

  • Connected Arc Ultra directly to the router via Ethernet.
  • Ethernet link is active.
  • Same update error persists.

Sonos App

  • App is up to date.
  • Local Network permission enabled.
  • Restarted iPhone.
  • Reset the Sonos app and signed back in.
  • Reconnected to the existing system.

Second Device

  • Installed the Sonos app on another phone.
  • Signed into the same account on the same Wi-Fi.
  • Received the exact same error.

Current Status

  • Arc Ultra is visible on the network.
  • Sonos account login works.
  • Sonos services appear operational.
  • Same error occurs on two phones.
  • Ethernet and app resets do not help.

Next Step

I have not factory reset the Arc Ultra since it still functions normally for TV audio.

Has anyone seen an Arc Ultra remain online and discoverable but consistently fail at the “Checking for updates” stage across multiple devices?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you factory reset you will destroy importamt internal data Sonos could use to help you. It is also unlikely to help.

First step, power down ALL Sonos, reboot router and d controller. Power up router and let it stabilize, power up Sonos.

If that doesn't work check to see if you have any filtering (dns or firewall) blocking access to the Sonos servers.

Maybe something like a VPN redirecting data?
