Upgraded my TV. SAMSUNG QN55QZFDAFXZA QLED which does not have a dedicated optical port. It has the eARC/HDMI port. Purchased a eARC/ARC to Optical Audio Converter ESY266 in order to make the connection to the optical port on my PLAYBAR. Successful link and setup of my PLAYBAR and PLAY 1 speakers. Volume control via the SONOS app works perfect no issue. My question/issue is this….I cannot control the SONOS volume via the SAMSUNG Smart TV Solar Remote Controller BN59-01432J A. This SAMSUNG remote is universal. Reading the details of the Audio converter it states “this product does not support CEC functionality The optical interface cannot be used to control volume throught the TV remote”

CEC is supported over HDMI connections using a dedicated pin on the connector.
PLAYBAR supports direct IR Volume control. On the TV, set the remote to control an arbitrary A/V system via IR, Then on PLAYBAR set it to respond to the same codes. The arbitrary manufacturer’s product should not be available nearby.
Do yoj have the Tv's optical volume set to fixed or variable?
