The Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Turntable in Black (Sonos Edition) comes with a built-in Pre-amp. Still some prefer an outboard pre-amp (which is doable). My only suggestion is to not go CHEAP.
I know there are pre-amps on Amazon as low as $22 USD. I’m a firm believer in the adage “You get what you pay for”. Regardless of what anyone says (inside or outside of this community) Cheap is Cheap.
I personally use the outboard pre-amp as shown here on Amazon. Not saying you need to buy the brand I chose. There are options costing 2 to 4 times what I spent; as shown here and here. But at least explore other options and do your research as to why one brand may be recommended over another and purchase what your budget will allow.
For me the fact that I could use the pre-amp I chose for both MM and MC cartridges was a plus and that the circuitry for both is isolated. The factor that sealed the deal for me was the auto power down feature if the unit isn’t used after a 20 minute period. All I have to do is cut power to the turntable when I’m done. Of course if you decide to stick with the built-in pre-amp it’s a moot point.
I could talk about cables; but that would open a can of worms I’m not willing to debate. 😬
I hope you found the information presented useful. In the meantime enjoy your Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Turntable in Black (Sonos Edition) or whichever model you have chosen.
Cheers!
