Does anyone know if Sonos 1’s have internal speakers on the backside of the unit. I’m concerned that if sitting on a shelf that is mounted to the wall the sound may vibrate and annoy the neighbor.

If the internal speakers face outward and to the sides, that would be ok. If there’s an internal speaker facing the wall, I might have to use speaker stands.

Please advise

A small, bright flashlight should let you look inside the grill, there are two speakers, both facing front.

You can also google “Sonos Play 1 Exploded view”  and see in great detail.

You might see a vibration issue with low frequency sounds being coupled from the speaker case to the shelf and wall. I wouldn't worry a lot about that as it is rarely an issue and if it is you can easily decouple the vibration by putting the speaker on a firm 1" thick foam pad.
