Question

PLAY:1 - How to play without any WiFi

Hello,

I have recently brought a the PLAY:1 speaker. I would like to use the speaker in my garage gym where there is no internet access. I was wondering if I could you this http://www.amazon.com/3-5mm-Audio-socket-Ethernet-Adapter/dp/B00NIGLFV6 with a RJ45 cable and connect the audio cable to my phone and hopefully connect my phone to the speaker. Is this possible? I would like to use my phone which has all the music I listen too.

Thanks,
Sandeep

Does your WIFI signal hit your garage gym? If so, put Sonos in WIFI mode and enjoy!
I can't see any way that would work, the play:1 has no facility to accept a line-in signal through the Ethernet port.

No. That adapter is for using an Ethernet cable as an analog audio interconnect, a pretty appalling idea IMO as the pairs in a regular Ethernet cable are unshielded. As The LHC says, the Ethernet jack on a PLAY:1 is solely for a network connection.
If you have music stored on a laptop you could attach the P:1 by Ethernet and use it in Auto IP mode. See the following link.

Alternatively you might be able to get SonosNet to your garage by positioning a Sonos Bridge or two in suitable places. Bridges can be bought fairly cheaply on eBay.

You could run a long Ethernet cable from your router to the PLAY:1 in the garage.

Biy a router and set that up in your garage. Instant wi-fi.
