I'm thinking of buying a second hand Sonos Play 5. Is it comparable with more recent Sonos speakers?

Comparable, yes, I think the Gen 1 Play 5 sounds almost as good as the Gen 2.

It will not pair with a Gen 2 for stereo though as Sonos thinks there is enough difference that would not be a good match.

Beware of getting a Gen 1 that is broken or that has been recycled. Also remember how old the Gen 1s are, don’t pay too much for one.

Hi @Stanley_4 Thanks so much for replying. I did mean to say "compatible" can I use gen 1 with a bridge purchased later?

As @Stanley_4 stated yes, the Gen 1 is compatible with all Sonos devices with the exceptions that he listed.

You might want to think about updating the Bridge with a Boost, the Bridge seems to be aging and having power supply issues. Replacing it usually works but the Boost offers a much improved wireless connection.
