Alexa responds to a 'play music command' but it does not actually play anything. The Sonos One works fine from the app. Alexa also will tell you the weather etc... just fine. When music is playing if you ask Alexa to turn off music it says 'I can only do that when music is playing' . Alexa connects to tunein and my amazon account but doesn't end up playing anything even though it says it is.

This thread is intended to help get you going if you get stuck setting up Alexa with Sonos, or if you have run into any errors. The setup process does use two different apps, so don’t stress if you’re having trouble, we can help. So you have an Alexa device and Sonos players, where do you go next? [b]1.[/b] Make sure your Sonos and Alexa devices are all powered up and connected to the network. [i]If you're new to Sonos, this means Installing the Sonos app, and going through the steps for [url=https://support.sonos.com/s/article/2627]Setting up Sonos here[/url]. There's a great video too. If you're new to Alexa, install the Alexa app (currently only available in the US, UK, and Germany) and make sure your Alexa device(s) show up. They will be listed under Settings > Devices. So with Sonos integrating Amazon Echo within their eco system a couple of questions: - If I install an Amazon Echo Dot in each room that I have Sonos speakers in will I be able to assign that particular dot to that rooms speakers? For example, I don't want to ask Alexa a question and then have all of the households Sonos speakers respond. - I assume using the Dots that as well as having full control of Sonos Music system I will also have full use of the usual Amazon Echo services i.e. Alexa, what's the weather forecast, and it will use that particular rooms Sonos speakers to respond? The potential is quite compelling if it's implemented well but good to get some clarification.
I am one of the many I am sure, to have purchased an Amazon Alexa after Sonos recent update. I also signed up to Apple Music once integrated with Sonos awhile back, but I am unable to link Apple Music and Amazon Alexa directly which in my view severly limits the point of Amazon Alexa and Sonos working together. I cannot say “Alexa play Parklife by Blur in the lounge” because Alexa does not recognise the Apple Music Library? Is there a work around, or is this on the Sonos/Alexa roadmap? If not, the welcomed integration between Amazon Alexa and Sonos may be not so welcome after all....
Sonos, After all this waiting. And after multiple articles. And after multiple phone calls to your service reps (including today), I’m now being told that you cannot group your Sonos system devices with your Google Home devices (after being told for months and more than a year that the aid be able to group them). Even the rep I spoke with today tried to help me and didn’t find out it wasn’t possible until he spoke to a system engineer. You can do it with Amazon devices, but STILL not with Google devices In all honesty, what is the point of adding Google assistant to Sonos if you can’t even use Sonos speakers with Google Speakers together in a group? It’s pretty useless for me to be in living room, have to get up and walk to my kitchen to say “hey google, play x in my Living Room” and then walk back.
In September 2018 Amazon released the AVS Device SDK that allows Alexa enabled 3rd party speakers to use Alexa Multiroom Music (MRM). This means Amazon now supports music played from Echo speakers and 3rd party speakers at the same time. Does Sonos plan to update their Alexa enabled speakers (One, Beam) to allow Alexa multi-room music?

Here’s a rundown of how the integration works. Your Amazon Alexa devices are listening for you to say the wake word, “Alexa”. When they hear that word, the microphones record what you say and send the audio to the Amazon Alexa cloud to be translated. That voice line turns into a string of text. The Amazon protocols determine if it’s meant for Amazon Alexa or for a Sonos player. If it’s for Sonos, that text is then sent directly, and securely, over to the Sonos cloud to be turned into a command using our own codes. Finally, the Sonos intended command goes down to the system. I set up the Sonos One two weeks ago and it connected fine to our existing Sonos system. Alexa voice was also working well. The Sonos One was unplugged for several days, and when I started it back up, Alexa did not respond, It appears that the voice services in the Sonos and Alexa apps on my Android phone are active. The system plays music just fine via the Sonos app. Any ideas on what might be wrong? Thank you in advance... SDK
I have 6 Sonos Play 1 speakers in my house, and purchased an Echo Dot to enable Alexa with my speakers. Here are my initial impressions of "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly": ========== THE GOOD ========== 1) Voice commands to Alexa initiate requests to play music from Amazon Prime Music on my Sonos Play 1 speakers. Requests such as artist, album, song, etc. My speakers across my house are set up as a group, and the music plays in all rooms in my house. LIKE! But see also: #2 in "THE BAD", below. 2) Voice commands to Alexa *control volume* on my Sonos Play 1 speakers, regardless of source of music. If it's playing in my Sonos app (including music I'm playing from "On this iPhone" on my Sonos app), I can control the volume with voice commands to Alexa. LIKE! 3) Voice commands to Alexa *skip tracks* in playlists that I'm playing, regardless of source of music. Hi there, I already read some posts about other people heaving problems with alexa's voice volume on the Sonos One. Some say it's not loud enough, when they have low music playing. Some say it's too loud. For me, the problem is, that Alexa is way too loud. When I mute the Sonos One and ask Alexa a question, she responds at a volume absolutely inapropriate. So I won't ask Alexa a lot in the evening, because I'm scared to wake someone up. Is this just normal on the Sonos One, is this a bug? And is Alexa supposed to be muted, when the Sonos One is muted? I would appreciate any advice. Does anyone have similar experience with the Sonos One?
Hey there; I have a house full of echos, dots and sonos speakers. In general, my Alexa Sonos skill is not working well. For example, I have two Play Ones paired in my kitchen as "Kitchen". When I say, "Alexa, play Billy Joel in the Kitchen" she says "Shuffling songs by Billy Joel on Kitchen" -- but no music plays in the Kitchen. She thinks she is streaming.... I have deleted all my smart devices, and reinstalled, etc. Not sure where to go from here. I was hoping you guys might have some troubleshooting suggestions. Thanks, Mark
Hello, I've been searching for a definitive answer to this for a long time, and I cannot find the information anywhere. I would like to connect my Fire TV audio to a Sonos system via wireless. Currently, I'm able to connect my audio from my Fire TV via Bluetooth to either a Bluetooth speaker or my Amazon Echo. What I would like to know is if the new Alexa integration will allow [u]wireless[/u] audio to route from my Amazon Fire TV to a Sonos system. If so, does this require the new Sonos One? This is also relevant for any users who want to connect a Fire Stick directly to the back of a ceiling mounted (or otherwise remotely located) projector and can't route audio cables.
I successfully set up my echo dot to control my sonos speakers. It will play radio stations and change from radio to streamed music but it won’t respond to my command to stop playing. I have disabled and renabled the sonos skill and rebooted my echo dot. Any help would be appreciated.
Starting roughly Dec '18, Alexa stopped playing music on my Sonos One. It acknowledges that it's going to play music, but then nothing; silence. I've logged out of Amazon on all account and on the web, and I've removed Alexa from the Sonos app, then reinstalled and logged in, but that didn't work. Today, I logged out of Amazon on all devices and the web, uninstalled both the Sonos and Alexa apps on both of my devices, and factory reset my Sonos One; still the same issue exists. I used to play Amazon music, but I also tried adding iHeartRadio, but Alexa still acknowledges the request but doesn't play music. I'm getting so frustrated that this is an issue in the first place, and that it's so difficult to come up with a solution. I'd greatly appreciate any advice I can get to get Alexa playing music again.
Just went through all the settings on Sonos app as well as Alexa app named my new Sonos One OFFICE in the Sonos app and group it with all my 7 other Sonos. I can play music on all Sonos through the Sonos app, I can use Alexa to play music on any speaker, EXCEPT the new Sonos One. Alexa keeps on telling that OFFICE SONOS is OFFLINE...
Set up a Sonos one a few days ago, was working great, loved it. Got home today and said Alexa play music, but nothing happened. Appears that Alexa stopped working but I’m bit sure why as I didn’t do anything to it. I can still play songs through the Sonos app. I tried eating and reconnecting the Alexa app to no luck. Alexa seems to recognize the Sonos one but just won’t respond to anything I say. I wonder if it is an issue with the mic? Any help / ideas appreciated.
