Have recently set up Alexa with Sonos and it works OK, but if I ask Alexa to play an album (play album name, by band and where I want it played), it just plays (queues) the first song in the Album. None of the other songs in the album appear in the queue on the Sonos app. Do I need to word the question to Alexa in another format?
I updated my connect amp and activated alexa integration (echo dot in my case). Now, according to https://sonos.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4158/~/amazon-alexa-and-sonos it is only able to play music (and of course spotify is not included) through the sonos device? So they spend more than a year to develop a skill that just allows it to play music but not let sonos work as a remote speaker?
As the title says, while executing a command such as "Alexa, next track", my sonos speakers lower in volume but don't go back up to normal until about 10-12 seconds into a song. That's 10-12 seconds AFTER my echo's LEDs have stopped lighting up confirming the request is complete). Any ideas? Can we just log this as a bug? Edit: Appears to only be affecting my Playbar+2xPlay1+Sub home theater setup. Single speakers resume volume fairly quick after executing a command.
I have connect my echo dot to Sonos (2 x play 1). The music plays through the 2 speakers and I can control from alexa, however the music continues to play also through the echo dot, but slightly out of phase giving an echo (no pun intended). If I mute the speaker on the dot, I cant hear alexa? How do I stop music playing through the dot, when playing though the Sonos speakers? I am sure there is a setting somewhere, but I can't find it.
When it was first mentioned last year that Sonos was going to team up with Amazon to allow Alexa your music, it was stated that it would be backwards compatible with existing Sonos speakers. This was also re-iterated when there was a sale of Sonos speakers earlier in the year. So could someone advise me on how I upgrade my existing speakers to understand Alexa's commands. Thanks
So, I have Sonos pretty much all over my house, how do I get Alexa? I assume this isn't going to be an upgrade to my current hardware that I have significant investment in. I haven't really used Alexa so I don't know how well it even works. I've been fairly underwhelmed with voice recognition so far i.e. siri. I do love my Sonos system but have been worried over the last year that it is going to be outdated and very expensive outdated. I am however considering getting a full Sonos surround system for my cinema, playbar, sub and two one's or maybe three's. I guess I could use the one's I already have for the cinema and get new one's with alexa. I've looked over the website and I don't really see any answers for a path for current Sonos customers forward. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
I setup the new Alexa beta and everything linked properly. I restarted speakers so everything should be all set. But when I try and start Sonos initially, Alexa tells me that "XX room is not responding". If I go directly to the Sonos app and start the player that way, I can get Alexa to at least recongnize the player. The issue I am having at this point is if I say "alexa, play "fill in the blank" in XX room", alexa will respond that it will play it but the sonos player will just resume whatever I manually started. I can't get it to change music at all. All I get is the ability to start whatever I was last playing. Hope this makes sense. I know the beta is only 5 minutes old but hoping someone can help!
I have 4 echos in my house grouped to the “everywhere” group through Alexa. I added my Sonos Play 1 and it works fine by itself with any simple alexa commands. However, I tried to add my Sonos speaker to my everywhere group but it doesn’t seem like this is an option. Can anybody tell me if I can play my music on ALL of my echo devices AND my Sonos at the same time? If I can’t add Sonos speakers to the everywhere group along with my Echo devices, I’m less likely to purchase an additional Sonos like I planned. Isn’t the whole point to be able to play music in all the speakers at the same time?
If your Echo devices are named the same as your Sonos devices then you won't be able to use the Sonos devices. For example I had a Doc called "Bedroom", and the app would not discover my Sonos speaker called "Bedroom". I think the Alexa App should provide some indication of this, or maybe a warning during discovery
It would appear that the development and availability of the Sonos One hardware has forced a premature release of laughably V8 buggy software, which clearly isn't fit for purpose. What happened to the Sonos USP we all bought into of 'it just works' ? After waiting for a nearly a year for this integration, the results are very disappointing. It struggles to understand voice commands, failing almost half the time with 'I don't understand' or 'something went wrong'. I reckon 60% success of a kind is typical, well under par. You can't control and play most music sources that Sonos support, including your own music library. You can't set up or control any groups of speakers. Add to that the revised IOS and Android App looks like a 12 year old designed it. No intuitive hierarchy and more presses to achieve the same as the old one. Classic example of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'. It looks like Sonos is on for a repeat of the Version 5 debacle (this is V8). The diff
Will you be able to work with Amazon that will allow output from Echo Dots to SONOS speakers directly. I currently have 2 dots, one is connected to the Lounge Play:5 via Aux, and one in the bedroom but I only have Play:1s there, but as you know it they don't have Aux inputs but it would be useful if the audio output could be configured to temporarily use DNLA to output Alexa requests.
Problems encountered so far: 1) Would not recognise my Living Room and play music then randomly did. 2) Says it cannot work in my kitchen even though works fine in Sonos App, and also listed in Alexa App. 3) When I say 'Play (artists) in Living room" it just plays the last song listed on the Songs App. No way at all to select artists via voice command. 4) When asking it to stop etc, have to shout at it. I know its beta but this is unusable and not like a usual Sonos Beta- very poor quality needs pulling and sorting out first. Fault may be with Alexa which I have generally found next to useless, for example very poor at controlling my Nest Thermostat etc. Fortunately the Sonos app itself still works fine and never lets me down. Could it be because we are operating on a Sonos bridge?
Hi, I'm been waiting for this features for the pass year. And I've see 3rd party websites selling Echo dot in singapore. But with the launch of this service from SONOS, I've too notice is only supported in UK,US and Germany, could you advice will it work in asia country such as Singapore, Australia and etc where I'm using the current Playbar and Play 1?
Hey everyone, Firstly, I have scoured threads relating to Alexa and Sonos, but haven’t seen anybody ask or answer this question. I currently own one Play:1 and have been waiting for the announcement and details of the Alexa skill before expanding my Sonos range throughout my home. With the recent details of the new Amazon Echo, I was thinking this could be a good option for smaller rooms, rather than another Play:1. So, let’s say I buy two Sonos One when they release - I create a stereo pair in my living room with these, then I have a Play:1 in my dining room with an Echo Dot, then I put a new Echo in my bedroom - if I were playing music on my living room Sonos pair, could I then also play this in my bedroom at the same time on the stand-alone Echo? I’m not sure this would work because of the cross platform and also how grouping works in Sonos (I don’t own any Echo products, which may be why I’m asking this question), so thought I would ask those who have both! Thanks
I have a Boost system which runs 2x Play One's in stereo, 1x Play One and a Play 3. A little confused at the new development. a) Two ways to make Alexa work with my system. 1: purchase the Alexa/Sonos speaker or 2: purchase an Amazon Echo or Dot. Is this correct, to make all my system work? b) Working with Boost, this creates a "special WIFI system just for Sonos speakers" Will this be ok to work with a) ? I have read everything on here about Alexa etc., I just want to have my system working under this exciting new system. Please help. Thank you.
I have an Amazon Dot connected to my play5 using the line in option. Until today Alexa speech volume and the music volume were fine. I have now updated my speakers, but now I can hardly hear Alexa speaking. (Weather reports etc) If I ask her to play music the volume is fine. I have set the line in volume to 10 for the speaker in the options, but this makes no difference. Anyone else having this issue.? Thanks Marc
