Sonos Connect and Echo Dot - Audio Input Question

Is there a way to connect an Echo Dot to a Sonos Connect without using the Audio Inputs (i.e. wirelessly)? I ask this because I am already using the Audio input to connect the tv cable box to the Connect. I have a hard wired non-Sonos sound bar and hard-wired non-Sonos speakers throughout the house. I'm hoping to get this set up so that I can use the echo dot to control my speakers through the Connect. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

Limitations of Voice in general

I will start this with a caveat that all of this is speculation because I still have to see Alexa working with Sonos, so anyone that has is encouraged to shoot it down in a hurry if it isn't valid. It was triggered by a recent conversation here about trouble with Radio play started via a voice command as compared to via a controller tap. On reflection it occurs to me that compared to tapping a specific line item, voice commands are convenient, but not made granular as easily as the former. An example: A station that I listen to, Radio Paradise, offers users a way to pick a stream out of a few options, that works best for them. The higher 320k bitstream offer better sound quality but also needs/consumes more internet bandwidth than the also offered lower one of 128 k. But if one can use the higher one, choosing its URL in the Sonos controller and assigning the Radio Paradise name to it ensures that the controller tap on the name will always result in the 320k bitstream being selected

Alexa control with Sonos

I have both my Sonos and Alexa apps set up for everywhere, all speakers. And all I get from Alexa is everywhere isn't responding. Help?

Alexa won't actually stream to a zone

I have the sonos skill installed and it sees all of my zones. The issue I'm having is that I can ask alexa to "play music in the family room" and it will reply that it's starting a stream in the family room but nothing actually starts playing and the sonos app shows that there's nothing playing. I can then ask alexa to "play music in the kitchen" and it will first say "amazon music is already streaming in a different zone. Would you like to stream to the kitchen instead?" I can reply "yes" and she will reportedly start a stream in the kitchen but again nothing plays. I can then manually start playing something in the kitchen and I can get alexa to raise & lower the volume but if you ask her "what's playing in the kitchen?" she reports the wrong artist, presumably because she's looking at the "Amazon Music" stream that isn't actually playing anywhere. Adding further to the mystery... If I drop a zone from the Alexa app and then rediscover it, I can get it to actually start a stream

Dot won’t play on Playbar but will on others.

The Alexa app for my Dot has found all three of my Sonos devices. When I ask it to play, for example radio on the Playbar, nothing happens and the Dot tells me it doesn’t recognise the name Playbar. Thinking it may be confused when I say the name Playbar into it, because of inclusion of the word “play” in the instruction I renamed it TV in the Sonos app. However it’s made no difference. Now when I ask it to play on the TV, as before nothing happens other than it tells me it cannot find anything called TV although it is recognised in the Alexa app as I have rescanned my devices. Other two devices are okay. Anyone any ideas please? Thanks.

Can a Play One be paired with ?a One

I currently have a Playbar, sub and 2 play 1's setup as living room, and a single Play 1 in the kitchen. I want to add voice control, obviously an option is to add an Echo Dot , but I was wandering if I bought one of the new 'Ones' .. if I could replace one of my current Play 1's in the Living room , and then move the reduntant play one to pair with the other in the kitchen . .So I'm guessing what the essential question is .... Do the new Ones sound the same as the Play 1's or will I notice the difference in the sound ?

I was about to rush out and buy an Amazon echo dot, to upgrade my existing PLAY 1 setup but (as far as I could establish) these three things don't play together yet. Lots of discussion about it though. Is there an ETA for this integration?

Sonos and echo dot setup

hello Just after some advice of the following idea of getting the echo dot audio to play through a sonos connect amp. I have a connect amp with some ceiling speakers. The amp is hidden away and the echo dot can't be connected with a cable to the aux in on the amp. As AirPlay audio works with the aux in can you use 2 apple airport express to send and receive the audio from the echo dot to the connect amp? Just to be clear, I'm talking about the echo dot voice and not streaming music as I can see you can tell the echo dot to play audio on your different sonos players. I would use the older wall plug apple express devices as they had a audio jack, plus small and now cheap on eBay. 2nd question.... if you have a deezer account on your sonos app, will the echo dot play from that?

Massive disappointment

Having bought Alexa as soon as announced to control Sonos, massively disappointed that it cannot operate the Sonos library. Why did we wait so long for such an inferior piece of “technology”?

Sonos / Alexa dot query.

Hi there, please can anyone help, it’s probably very basic for some but would really help me out. I have three Sonos speakers around the house, one being the Sonos play 5 (gen 2) in the living room, I have connnected my new Dot (gen 2) via the line in function. With the new beta release from sonos can I now use my dot to play through my sonos speakers using Wi-fi and not the line in? Secondly I have been subscribed to deezer ever since I bought my sonos speakers, can I control deezer (or access this) through my dot? Any replies or help,is appreciated. Thank you.

Severe bug caused by unsupported Alexa volume control command

There is a severe bug in the new Sonos beta relating to volume control via Alexa. Attempting to use Alexa to increase or decrease volume on a Sonos player/room by a specific increment (e.g. "Alexa, reduce volume in the Office by 10%") creates two problems. First, Alexa returns an error response, saying something like "Office does not support that command" - annoying, but not a big deal in a v1 beta. The much larger problem is that the Sonos player/room in question subsequently drops off the Sonos controller app, making it impossible to use. I've tried soft reboots and hard resets, but neither solves the problem. The players that have been impacted are just gone. That is obviously extremely frustrating. Sonos moderators - any idea how to fix?

Sonos skill on Alexa app

Hi whenI try to enable the Sonos skill I get a message saying "Oops there was a problem, please close the app and try again" which I have done numerous times. I have updated my Sonos players and I ave completed the Sonos account set up ok. Can anyone help me with the skill set up? Thanks John

Echo Dot, Sonos and Amazon Music

Anyone having issues with Alexa playing Amazon Music through their Sonos speakers? It seems inconsistent. Sometimes I will ask for a song, album or artist, and it will claim that it's only available on Amazon Music Unlimited, or not available at all which I am positive is not the case. After repeating it multiple times sometimes it will start playing, other times not. e.g. Alexa, play Tom Petty songs Alexa, play Open Shut Them (cannot find it at all) Alexa, play Open Shut Them by Hap Palmer (will work occasionally) Alexa, play Thomas and Friends All Star Tracks (will work occasionally) Oh and occasionally the music will start playing through the dot and the speakers. Anyone else having sporadic results? When it works, it's magic; when it doesn't, it's quote maddening.

Alexa-SONOS-Harmony Issues

I've had my Harmony hub linked to Alexa as a skill for quite sometime now. All works well for voice commands turning on TV, Receiver, etc. After adding the SONOS skill and discovering my SONOS devices, Alexa is unable to control the volume of the Receiver via the Harmony Hub. The reply is Alexa doesn't recognize that device. The SONOS Connect that is connected to the receiver is set for fixed volume via the Line out. So, the volume has to be controlled via the Harmony Hub and Receiver. Any one else have this type of setup or problem?

Speakers in Alexa Scenes

Are there plans to add the speakers to a scene in Alexa? It would be nice to add them to scenarios. Currently "I'm home" turn my lights on, it would be nice if it started music playback on my sonos speakers too. Same to stop. Currently they do not show under the Scenes tab in the Alexa app. Maybe Sonos needs to sort grouping through alexa first though?

Play One for kids' rooms - any way to disable Alexa other than the mute button?

I know that you can press the mute button on top to prevent the mic listening in for privacy reasons but for using Play:One in kids' rooms where I simply don't want my kids to use the Alexa feature to ask for an endless string of knock knock jokes is there a way to disable it that's more permanent? Out of the box is Alexa enabled? Or is it only active (listening, responding, etc) if one logs into an Amazon account and links the Play:One to it, enables Alexa skills, etc. Those are things a kid can't do and so it would effectively disable the Alexa feature for my purposes. But if out of the box Alexa has some functionality then I suspect it's likely more of a distraction than we want in the rooms where they're theoretically doing homework. :-)

Alexa echo playing music with the sonos together

Hi, Will the amazon echo 2nd gen play music with the sonos speakers in harmony, I have a few sonos speakers already and am keen to get the echo for voice control on songs, I believe the echo will play music as it is but will it play along with the sonos, I'm asking this because I would like to get another small speaker for the kitchen, so rather than buying a sonos speaker and a echo dot seperatly, I could just get the new echo to do both the jobs?
