Hi,

I have an Xfinity Gateway that is locked to auto channel switching (grr). Because I can’t set a specific channel on the router, is there a preferred channel to set on SonosNet or is it just a crapshoot?

Thanks!

If the Xfinity device can’t be moved off of Auto, it’s essentially a crapshoot. Ideally, you’d want to use a channel less used by others in the area, and not used by the Xfinity at all, but if you can’t control that channel, then you’ll need to assume the Xfinity will ‘see’ what channel you’re using SonosNet on, and stay at least 5 channels away.

Go to 10.0.0.1 in a browser to access the gateway.  Username admin, password password.  In the menu on the right choose Gateway, Connection, WiFi.  Choose Edit, then edit the 2.4.  Change your channel to a number (1, 6, or11) instead of Auto. Save and exit.

You can’t do this with the newer xFi Gateways - the channel selection is greyed out:

  • Customers with 2nd Generation and newer xFi Gateways (XB6 and XB7): Most of these Gateways have been upgraded with software that manages advanced WiFi settings automatically to help optimize your home network and provide the best performance possible. Advanced WiFi settings for Gateways with this software enhancement are not visible and cannot be managed from the Admin Tool or Xfinity xFi.
