Question

Unable to control Playbar volume with Samsung TV universal remote when using PlayStation 4

Hello,

I have a Playatation 4 Pro connected to the OneConnect box of a Samsung KS7000 TV which in turn is connected to the Playbar by optical cable. All TV and streaming services allow me to change the Playbar volume using the Samsung universal remote (the Playbar was setup as a Home Theatre System in the TV settings). The only system which causes problems is the PS4; the Playbar volume cannot be changed with the Samsung universal remote when using the PS4 (the only way to change the volume is through the Sonos controller). I have tried resetting the universal remote and also setting up the Playbar as a Blu-ray player as per another thread but it still doesn’t allow me to change the Playbar volume when using the PS4. Interestingly, all other universal remote functionality works with the PS4. I can navigate the PS4 menus, open applications with the remote but cannot change the volume.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any assistance/guidance would be much appreciated.

Cheers

That link was posted before they reorganized the FAQ section. I think the new link is this:

hello,

I'm encountering the same problems.
The link

https://sonos.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4198

is not active anymore(well anyway I can't reach it)

I have changed the setup from my PS4 to BR-player like but that doesn't seem to solve the issue.
Does anybody have a complete workthrough on how to solve the problem.

Thx
Mario
Hello Rob,

Not sure if you've solved the issue or not but i've got it working (controlling PS4 Pro volume using Samsung remote). The link below should help with step-by-step instructions:

https://sonos.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4198

The key part is adding the PS4 Pro as a Bl-ray player (make sure the PS4 is on when you do this) and when asked to do the power test, click the Power Test button and select Yes and then Done (even though it doesn't turn off the PS4). Then return to the Universal Remote setup, choose the PS4 player you've just added, click on the other input devices and select Use with Home Theater. This should solve it.

Hope it helps

Spot on!
