I have a problem calibrating a play 5 gen 1 with trueplay yet all other devices in room do it no problem

So, obviously you haven't upgrades to iOS 11 yet, since it's not working on that.

What error message are you getting? Have you submitted a system diagnostic? If so, I'd recommend that you post the number here, for the folks at Sonos to look at.
