Sub has no sound

I have a sonos beam and added a sonos sub.  it looks like the sub is connected but when I calibrate the sub the bass comes from the beam and the sub has no sound.  When listening to the system the sub never makes a noise.  I have tried re pairing but it is still the same.  Any advice?
