Soundbar Volume not working using Apple TV remote

I am having issues with the up/down volume on my Apple tv remote while connected through my Sonos sound bar.  For some reason when the sound bar is connected the volume on the Apple remote will not control the volume ALTHOUGH when I disconnect the sound bar (from the tv) the apple tv remote works and sound bar is disconnected.  Any ideas why remote will not work with the sound bar?

Which Apple TV model do you have?

I have the A1625 which I believe is the 4th generation.
