soundbar not working with TV's optical out

has been working for weeks, then just stopped. i've tried rebooting everything, and rejiggered all the cables.

i tried a factory reset of the tv. i tried a factory reset of the sonos. i tried two different optical cables. i tried the optical output from my TV, from my old TiVO, and the optical output from my cable box. none of these worked.

then i bought an optical-to-analog converter box** and plugged it into the TV and it output the audio perfectly. it also worked when connected to my TiVO. the sonos is unquestionably the problem.
