Sonos Beam 5.0 setup + Xbox One + Verizon FIOS -- Can't achieve 5.0 surround sound watching FIOS tv.

Hi! New to my Sonos beam 5.0 setup (beam + two play:1's). I have my Fios STB (VMS1100) connected to my Xbox One. XB1 is connected directly to Sonos Beam via optical audio adapter as my TV is older and does not have HDMI-ARC. 5.0 surround sound sounds great when using Netflix/HBO apps via XB1 but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get surround sound from FIOS even for channels I know are outputting Dolby Digital. I can only get audio just through Beam. Any guidance is much appreciated!

UPDATE: issue resolved. By accessing the "secret menu" on the VMS1100 (link: https://support.sonos.com/s/article/3493?language=en_US), I changed the Audio Output to "PASSTHROUGH" and that did the trick. Now receiving Dolby Digital 5.0 surround sound on compatible FIOS channels.
