Question

Control4 and Sonos

Badge +1
In control4 we have a driver that allows Sonos to work with our Control4 Gear.

I have 5 Play3, connect, 2 Subs and sound bar.

We are looking to expand the Sonos system , however they is chatter that Sonos are changing the driver to have less function.

Is this true ?

What driver?

No idea what you are talking about to be honest.

In control4 we have driver that connects to SONOS.

This allows us to Programme scenes and events - My SONOS speakers play announcements (Weather warning, Birthdays etc)

They is talk SONOS do not like this and looking to change the integration.

It doesn't seem likely that "the chatter" you mention is correct does it? Why would Sonos make a huge song and dance about following the voice control route 6 months ago, then, at the end of August, trumpet about various things including the above only to castrate it months later?
This is clearly a question aimed at staff, so why doesn't staff answer (and those less in the know hold their tongue)?

1) Staff will not go beyond an acknowledgment of the comment/question and may link to the Sonos press release
2) It's a public forum. all registered users are entitled to their opinion.
Of course, but the question was a factual one and an opinionated reply does nothing to resolve it.

Control4 released a press release (linked below) at the end of August that they are working on official support for Sonos. Most likely this is using a recently revealed Sonos-approved API (application programming interface). Whether it will have the same functionality as the current "unofficial" driver does, or if there will be more or less functionality, I don't know that anyone here will know that until it's available. You might be better off asking Control4 about it, if they're able to provide any insight.

I believe Lutron has already enabled Sonos support in their own systems using the same API, so if you can find info on what is possible on their systems, that might give you an idea of what to expect through Control4. Of course, it's also possible that Lutron may only have certain core functions available to make their implementation easier.

Sonos have just lost a £2k order because of how they made Control4 change the driver.

Shame Sonos love the product, but does not now work with HA system like it did.

All the control must now go thought the Sonos App - Not able to use my HA app or remotes, like we did before

Sonos - Please check out http://www.c4forums.com/topic/20739-sonos-vs-heos/

You are losing a lot more than our £2k order

Yes and like other Control4 Users we are selling our Sonos Kit and moving HEOS.

I have just purchase a Dennon Amp.

We have announcements that play though Sonos (Doorbell, weather etc) the new driver which using the API can not do this, also we can search within a control4 touch screen, we need to use a Ipad.

Its a big shame I like Sonos and have a lot of equipment, least HEOS with work with Home Automation
Hi so I just accidentally updated my Sonos and now I can't play Spotify from my control4 which is a problem with playing music in different zones of my house, seems like this new update blocked playing Spotify, is there anyway to revert to the last setting? Is this something that can be solved with a simple troubleshoot or a permanent problem
