Adding Sonos Connect Amp s1

I use S1 compatible products - 2 x Play 5 , Play 1 , 2x connects and wish to add a Sonos Connect amp that I’ve bought second hand from EBAY. I’ve reset it back to factory settings and tried adding it to my system but it keeps asking me to update it , but when I try, it just says that update unavailable. Is there any way around this or have I just wasted my money on EBAY?
