Hi. I have recently bought a play:5 and love it so much I want to connect it up to the rest of my system. I have a Linn Sondek LP12 turntable that is connected to a Quad 44 pre amp and a Quad 405 power amp, this powers a pair of Polk RTi8's in main lounge and Klipsch AW 525's outside (the play:5 is in an upstairs lounge). Also a lot of my music is on a HDD connected into my router. What I would like to know is could I connect the Connect between the pre and power amps thereby allowing me to stream from the turntable and TV etc through the amps to the Play:5 upstairs (and the Polk and Klipsch speakers downstairs)? Also would this also let me stream the network music through everything? Cheers Wayne
Anyone know if it's possible to stop people chasing the order of songs in the queue or to only allow them to add songs to the end of the queue and not use the play now option. At a recent party I gave a few people access to my music library sp they could browse through and pick some stuff to play but it just ended up being a war with people adding songs to play now instead of the end of the queue, then someone else would do a play now and so on and so on, hardly got to the end of any songs and it created a bit of tension. Some people might ask why I gave anyone access. They're my friends and I can't force them to listen to what I want all the time. It would be great if there was a party mode of sorts where people could access Sonos and add songs to the queue but only to the end of the queue. They then get to pick some music they like but don't cut off music that other people like.
I have two identical Samsung 4k TVs each connected to a separate Playbar and with surround speakers and each with an optical connection. Both of them suffer from the same problem that intermittently they will cut out for 5-8 seconds and then the sound comes back. This does not happen when streaming music on Spotify through wi-fi. I have tried resetting everything and have checked all connections. The Sonos and TV software is up to date including Router firmware (Asus RT-AC3200). Any ideas on how to fix this would be appreciated!
Periodically, my Sonos systems gets into a state where the volume reverts to zero (mute) whenever I try to turn it up. I think this is mostly when I am using Spotify Direct, but I am not sure about that. It has happened multiple times and I have friends with the same periodic problem. I just caught one live and took a video screen capture of it happening on my Mac. See: https://screencast.com/t/ieqhj04Gl2 Sonos diagnostic 7395506 was taken when the system was in this state. Same problem on my iPhone interface. The problem was resolved by resetting the controller from my Mac.
Thanks for any help. I'm going to bite the bullet and get a Sonos setup. I need help determining what would be best for what rooms. The rooms I would like to have music in are main floor: living room, dining room and a great room that has family room/kitchen/casual dining. Upstairs for now just one bedroom where the wireless router is. Here's more description of the rooms where id like to have music. 1. Living room and dining room: These rooms are open to each other but separate from the rest of the house. Both are 10 x 10 so together 10 x 20'. Reality is we will only use the formal dining room once a month at best. 2. Great room: Family room with tv above fireplace open to kitchen and eating area off to the side. The family room and kitchen are a long room – 15' x 30' with TV above fireplace on one short side and kitchen counter on the opposite short side. There is a small casual dining are attached to the kitchen that is 8x8. So it makes an "L" shape when it's all
We had our house built last year, with it came 2 pair of wired speakers with the wires run to the cabinets under the tv in our living room. Knowing I was going to have a Sonos setup in our living room, I had 1 set of the speakers installed in the garage and 1 on the screen porch. A year later I still haven't connected them to anything but recently have been wishing I had. So it seems I have 2 scenarios. First - purchase 2 Sonos amps, 1 for each pair of wired speakers - but paying $1000 for these 2 pairs of wired speakers seems ridiculous when I could buy 2 Play 1's or 3's (1 for each of the 2 areas mentioned) and spend much less. And then just forget about connecting the wired speakers. Second - and this is the one I'm not sure about. It seems as though their are home audio receivers that I can play my Sonos app on my phone through and have it connected to the 2 pair of wired speakers. We do not have any component home audio equipment at this point - simply use the Sonos
Hello! Visiting this thread I was wondering if some information there is outdated: https://en.community.sonos.com/controllers-software-228995/improve-cover-art-support-resolution-speed-image-types-and-fault-tolerance-5057783 For example it seems to me the pixel limit is no longer 1024x1024. I have an album where the embedded cover art is 1500x1500 and it is shown. However I found it often loaded really slow and sometimes not at all. However I found that reducing the filesize rather than pixelsize was more effective in making Sonos Controller read it faster. So which are the size and pixel limits nowdays? Also, is there a recommended filesize and/or pixelsize where the compromise between resolution and loading times are optimal? Or some kind of table showing the relation between loading times and filesize/pixelsize? I'd like to keep resolution high but if there's a size threshold somewhere when loading times are significantly slower I'd like to go below that limit. Also,
I am a total audio idiot so I need some help. I initially set up my Sonos Playbase to the TV. All video games (PlayStation and Xbox One) are connected to the TV. The sound was OK but not this "virtual surround" stuff that was why I bought the Playbase in the first place. I checked the Sonos app and audio in showed STEREO. I then connected the Playbase to the Xbox One directly (Xbox One has pass thru HDMI to watch TV). I checked the app again and it said Dolby 5.1 (or something along those lines, I cant remember exactly). It sounded a bit richer and fuller, but not that awesome virtual surround (but I didn't set up Trueplay as I do not have an IPhone). I see that my TV supports the following: 5.1 Passthrough ARC Dolby Digital : Yes 5.1 Passthrough ARC DTS : Yes 5.1 Passthrough Optical Dolby Digital : Yes 5.1 Passthrough Optical DTS : Yes Sorry for the long windedness, but I want the best surround'ish quality on all devices - TV, Xbox One, and Pla
For a long time now I've enjoyed a Sonos setup with a bridge, a play3 and a play5. This has always worked fine, but suddenly my controllers can't find any components other than the bridge, and when trying to re-add any of them (pressing mute+vol up) the indicator light flashes orange. When re-adding the controllers (I've tried a PC, iPad and iPhone) detect that I've pressed mute+vol up (they change to the 'connecting...' screen) but always fail to connect and show the 'Your Sonos component was not found' message. My wireless network is working ok, and I can see that the Sonos equipment is set to a relatively empty wireless channel (1), my own wifi network is set to a different channel (11). On occasion the Play5 has been able to connect, but drops off within 20 minutes or so. Any help or advice you might have would be greatly appreciated! Tom
Hi, I'm new here. I have a question about the Sonos Connect that I hope someone can help with please. Will the Line In analogue source be digitally converted, then reconverted to analogue at the Line Out? Or is it a straight analogue pass through from Line In to Line Out, if the Line In Source has been selected? Thanks!
I have a boost system with a play and 3 connects attached. Just bought a second play 1 and trying to add it. 1) tried setting it up wirelessly through ap. It found the play 1 but nothing happens after holding both play and plus. System doesn't find new speaker. 2) reset, etherneted to spare port on boost. Followed same pocesss. System still doesn't find new speaker. Help!
I'm using a 2x Play:5 setup in my living room. This is using for listening to cd music via line-in one the left and tv-audio via line-in on the right Play:5. This setup allows me to listen to Spotify, cd music and tv via the same setup. I would like to extend the tv setup with a Playbase where the Play:5 would be used as surround speakers. I would not use the Playbase for listing to spotify or cd-music, this would have to stay on the Play:5's It is possible to create this setup?
Hi, I would like to know if positioning a sonos sub not facing the listener would result in a sub-optimal listening experience. In particular, it would be on the ground, just right of my playbar, facing on the right (on the left - which means on its back - there would be a piece of forniture with the playbar on top). The playbar and the sub would be about 4-5 meters from the listeners). An alternative would be to have the sub facing the listener by putting it beside the playbar, but this would mean that the sub would not be on the ground but on the same piece of forniture as the playbar. Thanks in advance for your help
Just bought the Sonos amp and Bose Freespace 51's for outside in the backyard. The Sound at low volume seems to be very very low, at like 20% you can barely hear it. When I turn it up to say 75% it sounds very good but wondering why or if I can do anything to adjust this? The Bose are 8ohm, I notice the amp output is higher at lower ohms, is there a way to phase the speakers to get more output?
Simple question I'm sure, but don't know the answer so that's why I'm here. Getting an HDMI Switcher on Monday for all my HDMI Components, DVD, Blue-Ray, Roku.... Currently my Playbase is connected from the Playbase into my Digital out out port on my TV..... When I set this up do I then run the TOSLINK cable from the Playbase into the Optical port on the HDMI splitter ??? Or is it left as is from Playbase to TV ?? As always any answers or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank You !
Hi there, I have a pair of Play:1s in my living room, and I'm already very impressed with their sound. Nevertheless I'm still planning to add a SUB soon. I'm interested to know, will the addition of a SUB make the Play:1s adjust their frequency responses (i.e. raise their HPF cutoff frequencies) because the sub means they no longer need to extend so low?
I've had my Playbar for a couple months now and can't seem to get the lip sync issues worked out. My setup consists of Xbox One S, PlayStation 4 Pro and Apple TV 4th gen to hdmi switch. From the switch it is HDMI out of HDMI Switch to HDMI input on TV. I've tried different sources and all have issues with lip sync. I thought it may be the switch so I took it out of the mix and still same issue. Tried lip sync on Sonos App still same issue. Tried lip sync on my tv still same issue. Has anyone else has this issue. If so, what was your fix? Thanks in advance.
I have ready various posts about compressed/uncompressed usage of the Sonus and I think I have a different problem. The issue that I have is that I have a Connect (not Connect Amp) attached to my Sonus system (through LAN cable into Wi-Fi router) to feed an external music source into Sonus (happens to be Airplay) and the sound is out of sync as the local speakers connected to the Connect fire first and then the rest of the Sonus speakers are delayed a slight bit resulting in an out of sync sound system. I have tried compressed/uncompressed and the issue that I am having is not the normal sync issue that most post about. What I would like is some way to delay the local audio out in the Connect itself so that it can sync up with the inherent delay in the Sonus network. My sense is that the line in on the Connect is immediately feeding into the amplifier on the output audio ports -- much faster path than the rest of the meshed network. I am using Digital Coax output on the connect
How about showing the lyrics of a song while in the sonos app on your smart phone of tablet. My son likes a bunch of the music we have on our network and it would be great to use this awesome set up as a way to learn the song while listening to it... Matthew E
