Question

Control sonos locally

Hi Sonos(ers),

I am a newbie of Sonos community. I am really enjoy Sonos speakers that I just bought, now I want to develop a small tool (Android app + Google extensions) to control the Sonos locally. I took a look at the Sonos developer page, I couldn’t find any documents about controlling the speakers locally. All I found is control the speakers from the cloud which I don’t need. I heard people mention that Unpn can control the speakers locally, but I cannot find any information about that protocol from Sonos websites. I just want to ask our community if you can give me more info where do I start to write a small tool to control the speakers?

Its easy enough to do basic things, there are plenty of open source libraries for UPnP control and UPnP itself is a public spec. Sonos don’t document their version  but most is easy enough to figure out with a good UPnP tool and a network monitor.

Jishi has a node.js based web site which is probably a good starting point. (If you like Javascript, which I do not).

There was also a huge thread on the basics hosted on the old Forum, which might still be accessible somehow.
