Would like to set up the following with fewest wires and preferably under $1k. Apple TV (own), mini projector (preferred)/tv (if easier), turntable, sonos (play1 x2, connect, soundbar?)? What is actually required to sync all systems, what is best set up?

Hi Robb winter

It's great you are considering Sonos! The basic set would be the following

1.TV with Audio Return Channel (HDMI-ARC port)
2.Playbar/Playbase/Beam
3.Play 1 x 2 /Sonos One x 2
4.Turntable w/pre amp connected to Connect via RCA inputs
5.AppleTV into a HDMI port on TV

Now here are your options:

_Playbar connects to your TV via Optical only
_Playbase connects to your TV via optical only but supports AirPlay 2
_Beam connects to your TV via HDMI-ARC and optical if no ARC is available on TV
_Beam connected via HDMI-ARC provides Alexa voice control of TV and other Alexa features
_Beam connected via optical has no Alexa voice control of TV however other Aleax features are present
_Beam provides AirPlay2
_Beam obviously has more features but was designed for smaller rooms. Would suggest testing Beam and Playbar/Playbase to make an informed decision on room acoustics.
_Playbar/Playbase/Beam offer music play back

_Play 1 is not AirPlay2 compatible
_Sonos One is AirPlay 2 compatible and has Alexa features (although Alexa is muted in surround mode)
_Play 1 / Sonos One have ambient and full settings for music playback

_Connect w/pre-amped turntable will group to HT setup to send vinyl playback to those speakers

_Mini Projector is possible but setup is not as straight forward as with TV

All the above require a good router with good Wi-Fi. Room acoustics can be adjusted using TruePlay in Sonos App provided you have an iOS device. TruePlay is not Android compatible. Click the links for more setup information:

Total Cost to Budget Configuration = $1,046 before tax not including TV and turntable
Beam = $399
Play 1 x 2 =$298
Connect = $349

I spend $3K on playbar, sub, 2x play 5 gen2 and love every second I listen to it, don't skim on the $s, life is to short to listen to poor quality sound.
