Do I Update if I Am not Running Lion?

Is the new Lion friendly update backward compatible with Snow Leopard?

I started to update on my iPad, but stopped short when the new controller said it had to update Sonos components. Everything is working well under Snow Leopard, and I have no immediate plans to upgrade my OS.

Should I still install the update and update my components?

There's no reason not to update. The components get updated as well because the entire system needs to run the same software revision.

The same procedure will occur on every update.

Thank you. I needed some reassurance because I have 2 iPad controllers, 1 iPod controller, and 1 Sonos controller, as well as the controller on my Snow Leopard Mac.
