That is a question for YouTube. Sonos doesn't add services, they add themselves.

Is this true, to add a service it needs no input from Sonos? Sounds very different to my understanding.

I didn't say there is no input from Sonos. However, the initial sign up and development is done by the service using the SMAPI (Sonos Music API). Sonos basically does the testing after the service asks to be added and submits their SMAPI integration. See this link for the Sonos Music Partners program, and how a service can sign up and get on Sonos:

Try SonosTube - http://www.frontierapp.com/sonostube.html
Seems to work - albeit from the SonosTube app rather than from Sonos app, but better than nothing. Sound quality didn't sound so good but I suspect that that's down to the sound quality from YouTube end
