Just read the email from Sonos on the Listen Better program. Whilst this is to be lauded, it does not also look at the underlying greed of some parts of the industry which will ultimately kill music. They also haven't provided any options for the public to get involved. An example of the greed in France comes from an organisation called SACEM which purports to support artists by enforcing performing rights payments. In principle, this is again to be lauded and is correct in charging shops, outside fetes etc to play music to the public. However, they recently used their large resources to change the law so that anybody offering holiday accomadation with a cd player in it (not the cds) or a clock radio has to have a performing rights licence just in case one of their guests use it. This is causing a lot of accomadation owners to remove music playing equipment which will ultimately lower the diversity of music as guests from other countries often listen the radio in the morning and are exposed to artists they would never normally hear.
