Life with Sonos
Life with Sonos. How do you get the most out of your Sonos system? Got any Sonos tips to share?
I am frustrated with SONOS. If the router changes or if a new network is used it is virtually impossible to have SONOS working smoothly. I own a pair of Play 1s, but the system only works if one of them is plugged in directly to router via ethernet. I have attempted to reset, reboot, re-install, and nothing works. It cannot be this difficult to set up the system. Getting ready to return. Nice sound but very flawed.
I bought a New Samsung TV and Sonos ARC Soundbar last week: Samsung TV Model QE65Q95TATXXU Software Version : 1115.5 Connected Sonos Arc to the eARC port 3 on the TV and the Arc only delivers any sound when the eARC is switched off (no Sound on Automatic). The Sound output on the TV is only recognising the ARC as connected to HDMI when it should recognise it as connected to the eARC HDMI port. The Dolby ATMOS compatibility button makes no difference when on or off. Pass through setting makes no difference. Dolby Atmos (DD+) is recognised by the SONOS App when playing directly from Netfix App on TV, this means the TV and SONOS ARC are not talking to each other and not recognising the eARC signal (it should say DOLBY Atmos not DOLBY Atmos DD+). Checked all connections and have rebooted both TV and Soundbar with no success Not ideal when the TV and Sound Bar cost over £3500, I just want it to work and thats what should be delivered by SONOS. Spoke to SONOS Support (Xander P) and the
My setup is: boost, 1x playbar, 1x Play:1's and 1x Sub. Playbar is connected via ethernet, optical audio from TV Samsung UE46F6400. A can barely hear the sound from the surround Play:1's. Only when I turn the volume quite loud then I can clearly hear the sound from the Play:1's, but then the volume from the playbar is so extremely loud that it dominates everything (and the neighbours will start to complain). Please do not advise to recalibrate or reset the surround settings for the room, I did that already (maxed out the surround sound setting) but it hardly made a difference. Questions: 1. Is it possible to set the volume for the playbar alone? If so then I could turn down the playbar-volume, so I can turn up the overall volume and hear the surround better. 2. Is is possible to maximize the volume for the surround sound further than via the room settings (preferably the two Play:1's independently)? Thanks in advance.
well, sort of ;) Just thought that I would share this with the community - I am running a sonos controller from my web browser under linux ! happy times I just installed an extension called "arc welder" (https://developer.chrome.com/apps/getstarted_arc) into my chrome browser. Arc welder lets you run android apps in your chrome browser and guess what ? the 5.3.1 apk of sonos controller for android works a treat go forth, run your sonos controller under linux. at last. All features of the android controller seem to work perfectly. Julian
When my wife and I are watching TV, we are noticing that we are having some difficulty fully understanding what the people in the show are saying. It's as if it's not fully clear or as my wife would describe it, it's a volume issue where the dialogue is being overwhelmed by other sounds perhaps. It's gotten to the point that we need to turn on sub-titles at times. We don't notice this issue with other TV's/watching TV on a computer, so I think this is isolated to the Sonos playbar. Also, I've noticed when watching movies that the sound fluctuates a lot, in which in an entire movie I have to hold the remote to adjust the sound up and down. It's like the explosion scenes are way too loud but the speaking scenes are not loud enough so we turn it up to try to hear what they are saying and then something loud happens and it's somewhat jarring to us when we are watching the show. Is this an acoustics issue? Calibration issue? We have 1 Playbar, 2 Play 1's as surrounds, the Pl
We bought the Samsung 55" UHD curved LED Smart TV on Amazon Prime Day July 12, 2016 but its smart remote won't control my Playbar's sound. I'm using the Optical jack on the TV and can hear good sound from the Playbar, but can't control the volume. I used the Sonos Settings --> Remote Control Setup to no avail... The remote seems to use IR. Any ideas would be appreciated since both are 2016 models.
Hi all, after just mounting the playbar on the wall under the tv I noticed the sonos book that says "to preserve audio quality, ensure the connector panel faces away from the tv". Does this have to do with the sonos from part being either at the top or the bottom as long as the cords are leaving at the back of the playbar into the wall? Right now I have the cords coming out of the top (optical, ethernet etc) of the playbar which because it is under the tv would mean it is facing TOWARDS the tv (ie the silver part of the unit is at the top ). I did this because it looked better because you could see the cords more when they came from the bottom (AWAY) from the tv. Does this matter much or is it overstated? Don't see how it would make a difference even though it says it on the playbar booklet
I've seen hundreds of references to the Sonos speakers that will and will not support Airplay 2, but I haven't seen a definitive word as to whether the Connect:Amp will directly support Airplay 2. By directly, I mean *without* piggybacking it on a new generation Sonos speaker.
I have my Connect running to my Yamaha receiver and pushing Martin Logan fronts and center. I have an extra optical cable and an RCA (red/white). Do you guys have thoughts on what will produce the best quality sound? As a sidenote, I'm also needing the cable that will provide the quickest signal...as has been covered before, I can only use my Connect in DIRECT mode when playing my Ones in conjunction with my main system that is using the Connect. Otherwise there is a small but noticeable delay.
The Sonos speakers should be able to function like a bluetooth speaker bar (I would have paid more for built-in BT if necessary for it) to allow playing audio wirelessly from a phone, tablet, or computer. For example, if I'm watching Netflix or Hulu or a local video file or playing a game, the sound should transmit over WiFi (or BT if it can't be done with WiFi for latency reasons) to allow it to be heard on the speaker(s). I have a ~$40 portable speaker that can do this, so why can't this $500 speaker do it?? I like the Sonos speaker, but I'm regretting purchasing it and will not be buying any more, when I can get a whole lot more functionality out of other options. It can't do the one thing I bought it for.
Pretty much all file formats now support ratings within the tags / metadata. These tags allow a user to rate songs, generally on a 1-5 scale. I would like to see Sonos add some features to support song ratings. Here is what I'd like to see: -Ability to view rating of song currently being played (perhaps 5 light-colored stars somewhere on the display with 3 of them filled-in with a darker color for a song with a ranking of 3). -Ability to modify song ranking using the Sonos controller when it is being played (similar to the TiVo "Thumbs Up" and "Thumbs Town" feature). -Ability to sort by song ranking (to play your favorite songs or to play/rank ones that are not rated). -Ability to have a playlist automatically generated based on rankings and an additional criteria (genre, artist, playlist size, etc.). I think these features would make it easier to listen to your music collection without searching through it song by song trying to build a specific playlist. I've noticed th
Delighted to see AirPlay 2 support annouced. However, bubble well and truely burst by twitter support confirming it only works on newest devices - the play5 gen 2, and play base. Can this be explained further, is it : (i) Only new devices will support AirPlay 2. So if I have 6 Sonos speakers, 2 of which are play5:gen2, only those 2 will show as airplay speakers? Or (ii) You need at least one compatible device in your ecosystem, which acts as a bridge for older devices. So in scenario above, as at least one play5:gen2 is in the mix, all speakers are available. I am crossing everything that it is (ii)... or there will be a lot of very unhappy people!
Has anyone succeeded in using a Synology as a music server for Sonos players ? I know you can connect direct to the Music share on the Synology, but that is subject to a limit on the number of tracks/songs. I want to use the Synology as a music server that my Sonos players can connect to. I have both the Synology Media Server and the Synology Logitech Media Server set up and succesfully detected by my PC music player (Media Monkey for Wndows). My Sonos can see the Media Monkey media server, but the Sonos cannot see either of the two Synology media servers. Has anyone got this working ?
Hi there Just installed a Bridge, Playbar and Play5. Having problems though accessing fully my iTunes on my iMac. Also neither my iPad nor iPhone5 can access all of my iTunes library and play music on the Playbar. Message states it cannot access iTunes on my iMac Please can you help?
My connect keeps cutting out/stuttering when playing music. It is currently plugged in via ethernet cable as it was also cutting out before when running on wireless. My internet speed is 100mbps so I know it's not an internet speed issue. My diagnostics number is 3944892
Got my Beam today (16th) and am pleased with it so far, but I'm having to boost the TV volume much higher that it was with the TV speakers. Without the Beam the TV was at about the right volume at a setting of 30 whereas via the Beam it needs to be in the 70's to 80's (and thats nearly maxed out) to get the same perceived volume It's a Sony Bravia TV with the Beam connected via the HDMI ARC and a pair of Play:1s as surrounds. Anybody got any suggestions as to either TV or Sonos settings. I've played TV Level slider from the app. but it doesn't seem to make much impact? I'll continue playing about in the meantime
Good evening all, Firstly I'm new on here ( hello all ) so hope this is posted in the right section! I am not new to HiFi equipment or wireless speakers ( I have had a rather bad habit for the last 20 years ) and have had and sold more stuff than I care to think about, but I am new to Sonos, well until this weekend that is! I wanted to share the following with you as I cannot see anywhere on the forums or the net a Naim vs. Sonos comparison. Sunday afternoon, following a trip to my local John Lewis I returned home with a Play 5 Gen2 (£389) and the relatively new Naim Qu So QB (£595). I couldn't decide which one to go for and having any sort of meaningful demo was hopeless, Sonos Play 5 was connected to a Play 1, Play 3 and a Sonos soundbar which all seemed to playing at the same time on the Sonos stand, despite me trying to isolate the Play5 and even trying the line in option with the 3.5mm jack I brought with me as a last resort.( plus someone was streaming what sounded like
How do I connect a Sonos Connect to a receiver so that I can listen to CDs on my Play 1 speakers? I’ve connected the audio out on the Connect to the CD audio in on the receiver - nothing plays. I’ve hooked it up to the Tape audio in on the receiver, tuned the receiver to Tape, again nothing happens. As best I can tell, the Connect was successfully hooked up through the Sonos app at the beginning of this process which, I assume, means Connect and Play 1 speakers will work together once I get receiver hooked up appropriately. Help! Thanks.
Tried using Sonos with Golden Master of Catalina and its a no go. When I add my music library on an external drive it does so normally but NO songs in the folder are recognized. Wonder if it has to do with Music being the new app for music instead of iTunes?I was able to see music added if it was on the internal drive of the machine.
Hi guys, On the iPhone APP I can choose what quality I want to stream the music. I have the HiFi Subscription and should be able to stream TIDAL HiFi - Lossless FLAC 16bit/44.1kHz. (Flac 1411 kbps - Lossless). Do I need to do something to be able to stream on that quality? Does SONOS support the 1411 kbps Stream? Is there a way to check how many kbps is being sent to SONOS? Thanks guys!
