Life with Sonos
Life with Sonos. How do you get the most out of your Sonos system? Got any Sonos tips to share?
There have been questions about the high frequency response of the Sonos Amp. User hodgeal posted a very interesting plot showing the frequency response of the Sonos Amp using the software REW. It didn't show excessive high frequencies in that single test. I had the opportunity to compare the Sonos amp to my Peachtree amp using the same software (which is very useful and easy to use - thanks hodgeal), and this provides a comparative test of the Sonos Amp frequency response. The Peachtree Nova 125 SE amp is well-respected in the audio community. It is a class D digital amp, same as the Sonos Amp, but as far as I can tell uses different chips. The test uses Duntech Marquis speakers and a Studio Projects C1 microphone. The mic is setup on-axis at a distance of 120cm, which is pretty standard. But none of the details should matter because this is a comparison under identical conditions - I simply swapped amps and repeated the test. And the results? [img]9ff086c4-1880-4d
Is it possible to add a Sonos Roam to multiple Sonos WiFi systems?I recently purchased a Roam and took it with me on a road trip. My in-laws have a Sonos system and I wanted to add my Roam to their system so I could get all of the benefits of using Roam over WiFi instead of Bluetooth. However, the only way I could get the Roam to connect to their system was to reset it to factory and set up the Roam as a new speaker in their Sonos system. When I came home I had to repeat the process by resetting to factory and adding it back to my Sonos system. The feature I’d love to see is the ability to add a Roam to a second Sonos system over WiFi without having to remove it from an existing Sonos system. Ideally, after initial setup, the switch between Sonos systems would be done automatically based upon the connected WiFi network.
Hi there, I'm not really one to complain because my sonos equipment is the best I've ever brought. But I must say. I've just done the new update and I think it's a load of rubbish! I don't want my playlist clearing when I want to play another, I'd like to clear it myself thank you please! What do others think? Please take this on board, thank you .
Am I the only one that finds the new privacy statement disturbing? I cannot recall ever being told when I bought my seven products over a period of time that Sonos had the right to threaten disabling my property if I didn't pass over personal information. Does anyone in the UK know if, by law, they can blackmail consumers in this way, post-purchase?
Hello. The Murfie website says they have ceased operations. As of today, my collection is still streaming but I cannot reach anyone there. I have about 600 discs uploaded as FLAC files there and am very concerned to be able to retrieve those in tact. Anyone else use Murfie or any suggestions? Thank you, Bigdog39
Word of warning for anyone looking at the Beam to start a 5.1 surround sound system, it will NOT work ideally for any streaming box except the Apple TV. I would suggest really doing your research and/or staying away from the Beam if you want a home theater solution. The Beam does not support Dolby Digital Plus (DD+) and only supports PCM (poor quality) or Dolby Digital. Why does that matter? DD+ is the current standard. Dolby (the only thing Sonos support) sounds good but is hardly used anymore by anything halfway modern. PCM is the audio equivilent to standard definition TV. DD+ is the de facto standard for streaming boxes and services. Hulu, Netflix, HBO and I want to say Plex support this standard and only this standard. Those services do not use Dolby Digital. To get Dolby Digital, that means the stream must be downconverted (transcoded) on the fly by either your streaming device or your TV before reaching the Beam. If you do not convert, you are forced to use the poor qual
Pretty much every man and his dog that launches a network streaming device (amp, speaker, link...) is supporting Spotify Connect. Others have also issued firmware updates to make devices compatible that previously were not (e.g. Bose Soundlink) Im a massive fan of Spotify and, as one of the biggest music streaming services, I still cant fathom why Sonos wont support it. The spotify integration in the native sonos app is pretty poor. There are countless complains at 'ask sonos' about lack of Radio, Your Music and other features. Spotify provide the perfect vehicle to allow them to solve all these requests and complaints in one go. They cant argue that they want to keep control entirely within Sonos as they've already provided support in Google Play (android only) and QQ in china. Their 'official reply' on the main request to support Connect is totall
Hi. I actually enlisted all my Sonos for sale, as I think Sonos isn't up to date and actually doesn't have the visions to be (for us surround users) updated, only for multiroom purpose. BUT, now s14 is in the horizon which is rumored to have hdmi. For at start I think its nice, since I will be able to control Sonos sound on my Apple TV remote app. In this scenario, it would be nice and some kind of a must if this S14 has at least one hdmi input.I use all my hdmi inputs on my old b6 and would have to skip one unit in order to make place for at Sonos soundbar with hdmi. I think many Sonos users use all of their hdmi inputs on tv as its kind of the thoughts - the tv is the hub. BUT isn't this against Sonos´s "bulletproof" philosophy?. im thinking on handshake issues, personally I could think Sonos only supports sound on hdmi, in order to avoid handshake issues. Well it may have a hdmi 2.1 socket which have the capacity to potentially fix many of these hdmi issues. Which brings me t
I am trying to find straight comparison's between the various Sonos and Heos speakers. Ignoring the apps, lawsuits, and preference of appearance and instead focusing strictly on sound quality, does anyone know of where to find some good comparisons between the products or maybe have done comparisons of their own? Below are a few basics as best I understand or have compared: Sonos One v. Heos 1 - Most seem to give the Sonos One a slight edge in sound quality. Sonos Play 3 v. Heos 3 - Neither really seems to have an edge. Sonos Play 5 v. Heos 5 - Most seem to give the Play 5 a slight edge in sound quality. Sonos Play 5 v. Heos 7 - A vast majority seem to give the Heos 7 the easy edge here. It seems to be highly rated all around. Sonos PlayBar (w/ sub) v. Heos HomeCinema - Neither really seem to have an edge. Sonos PlayBar (w/ sub) v. Heos Bar (w/ sub) - Reviews that compare these are hard to find but between the lack of HDMI on the PlayBar and the raw specs of the
So now that I have iOS 10, I've noticed in the new Apple Music app that Sonos is now a specialist curator and have lots of playlists. The irony being you can't actually use them on Sonos equipment because only the old Apple Music comes through the Sonos app. Will there be an update to Apple Music on Sonos and will it be this year ? I only ask because timely updates are not Sonos strong area.
Just received my Roam today. Heads up for everyone as it’s not made clear anywhere prior to purchase that it’s only compatible with the new version of the app. This means if you have “legacy” Sonos products as part of your set up and use the S1 app to control them you won’t be able to see your Roam as part of your existing Sonos network. You have to download the new version of the app and then set up a new Sonos system to add the Roam to it. Then you have to add all your music services, any favourites etc etc again to the new app to be able to access them on your Roam. Pretty s*it experience to be honest, and annoying it’s not made clearer. By having “old” products Sonos doesn’t want me to have in my network I’m effectively left with a bog standard stand alone portable speaker. Struggling to see the benefit of it over a JBL Bluetooth speaker at the moment to be honest (build quality and sound quality aside obviously 😆). Anyway heads up for those of you still mulling over the purch
When I group a Connect AMP and Playbar (which is connected to a TV), I can't control the volume using the TV's remote as a group, it only adjusts the volume of the play bar. This means I have to reset the balance of the speakers within the group everytime someone adjusts the volume using the TV remote. This is a real pain. Is there a way the group volume can be controlled by the TV remote?
3 minutes ago I see I'm not the only one with this problem - the latest update seems to have caused the app to consume more battery than the screen, even with notifications and lock screen off! I've had no choice but to uninstall the app as killing it, clearing cache etc, none of the usual things fixes it.
The Now Playing widget shows Album, Artist and track title. It doesn't show the Composer name, even though Sonos has this information in its indices. Many classical albums are a composite program of works by various composers. When a track is queued, or playing, there is no way whatsoever to discover who the composer is. The titles given to classical works often give little clue; eg. "String Quartet No. 8 in E minor, Op 59.2: I. Allegro" ... pick the composer? It is very disappointing that this feature hasn't been implemented after 5+ years of requests from customers who enjoy classical music. I can't see why it isn't self evident that feature is required. In most instances a Sonos improves upon playing music from a physical cd; ie. I don't have to find it, and then put it away. This is an instance where the use of a Sonos degrades the experience; ie. I am listening to something, but I can't tell what it is, as I have no longer have access to the cover.
Hi, Since the app update, when i'm trying to open my Apple Music playlists through Sonos it doesn't find any of the playlists and says: "we've run into a problem. Try again". I tried again, and again and it doesn't work. The sonos recognizes all the rest of the apple music options: artists, songs, etc. - but not the playlists that I use on apple music. Beside that, when I'm listening to Appke music through sonos, every few songs (randomly... it can be after one, two, three... songs), it stops and says it was unable to play that song from apple music... The diagnostic number is: 7925107 Thanks, Ido
If this is true, I’m not sure what I think about it. I guess there is a market for lower-priced sound bars, and I’m sure the “Fury” would sound great in a small room. The article also mentions that it can be used as a surround speaker in its vertical orientation. That would make for a REALLY tall surround speaker at over 21” tall.https://www.theverge.com/2022/4/21/23035569/sonos-new-soundbar-2022-s36-fury-specs-price-release-dateI was really hoping for a One or Three with an upward firing driver instead. What are your thoughts?
Pandora just fed me a GLADE holiday scents ad right in the middle of two songs. I've never hear this prior and want to know who at Sonos and or Pandora decided to start forcing us to put up with LAME advertisements when for years it wasn't foisted on us. Yes every company wants to be profitable, but it would have been nice if Pandora or Sonos would have given us some practical notice before they changed their services.
I've been having the same problems with music playlists stop playing and "network connection speed insufficient" messages coming up shortly after every track it try's to play and skips to the next!!!! Really gets annoying when your trying to chill out!!!
