Life with Sonos
Life with Sonos. How do you get the most out of your Sonos system? Got any Sonos tips to share?
So it's Boxing day, and I've just received a lovely big SONOS Play:1 speaker for Christmas. I set the speakers up and try to find them on my system. Nothing. I do some research, trying to figure out why I can only play through SONOS app and verified programmes approved through the SONOS app. Why something which clearly cost more than a few pretty pennies is essentially useless for anything other than playing music. No live sound, no video sync, nothing but music through SONOS. So the decrepit old speakers I have had since 2000 are essentially doing a better job than the basic model of SONOS. Not only this but my cheap shower bluetooth speaker I bought for my boyfriend (£5.99) can do what this supposedly amazing modern and high quality technology cannot. Which is play ANY sound off of my computer or phone that I want it to. How is this a complicated concept and why, after literally years and years of community comments and wailings and clearly strong customer dissatisfaction hav
Hi All. Since the Apple Music outage a few days ago I just get the message “Unable to browse music” when trying yo use Apple Music. I have removed and reloaded the account, reauthorised it etc to no avail. I have a family account and I did notice that my partners library was working fine which seemed odd. Its becoming a pain now as not all of my set u is Airpaty compatible so fiddling about to link things isn't very user friendly ! I see this seems to have happened over the years but wondered if anyone had a resolution to this ?
I have read the thread on no Android integration for Trueplay, but I would hope spending 1500 on a system there would be a better solution than "borrow an iOS device from a friend"! Especially after3+ years!!! First thought, if it is a microphone issue, then standardize your system with 1 mic to calibrate your system with. Yamaha, Marantz, Denon, Pioneer etc ALL provide a setup mic with their systems. Microphones among iOS devices also differ, they are different from year to year and model to model. So that verbage doesn't add up or holdmuch water. Second, before the android bashing begins, I bet the cost of my system if the table was turned and it only worked on android and not iOS devices, there would be a loud outcry of Apple users, especially if told to go "borrow" an android from a friend. Not that this will change anything but I got to express my opinion. I'm the proud owner of a top-of-the-line Sonos system that is"Meh" at best.
A little over a week ago, I started a thread to engage with like minded people here: those that felt the way I did, as explained in my opening post there. That thread was titled: “The Sonos Brexit and pragmatic ways past it” and I intended that to be the last thread I open on this site. A link to that thread: https://en.community.sonos.com/controllers-software-228995/the-sonos-brexit-and-pragmatic-ways-past-it-6836056 That thread has grown beyond expectations. While everyone on it has contributed to keep it profanity free and largely rant free, with an occasional nudge by @Edward R in that effort, just by virtue of its length, it has become unwieldy as all long threads become. And it has many days to run, because the Sonos Brexit event, and the release of detailed information about it by Sonos, are both at least three months away. I therefore thought that it made sense to break my promise to myself - No More Threads - and make just this one exception to it, by opening this thread. It i
I have just bought my first bit of SONOS equipment (Play:3). Overall impressed with sound quality (once I toned down the bass on the EQ) but the controller software (mac and android), oh my, oh my. It really is terrible - I'lll post some more on that later. Anyway - you seem to support some really rather obscure music services - at least ones I have never heard of - yet you do not support on-demand streams from the BBC iPlayer Radio. I was surprised by this, some shows are available via Tune In Radio - granted, but these seem to be rather out-of-date. I was wondering how many customers you have in the UK? And if you think they deserve to have support to the iPlayer Radio?
Now while its great to see that Spotify radio is going to make it into the Controller app, having used Spotify for a few weeks now on my Sonos system i think Sonos need to go a step further. In effect i think that the spotify app, for ipad for instance needs full integration into the Sonos system (as it does for Napseter etc) What ive found annoying to date is that if im playing a tune on my Sonos system that i like, i then have to go to the Spotify app, search, and find that tune, then click on the star button for example so that its added to my Sonos Controller. That kind of functionality should be included by default.
Sonos have recently started a trade in promotion in the UK with partnered retailers where you can trade in a Connect or Connect:AMP and receive a 'specified' discount off of a new Sonos AMP. They then modified the trade in promotion to be where you can trade in any Connect, Connect: AMP or (old gen) Play:5 for 30% any new Sonos product. I get that they are trying to sell more +/ new products but then contributing a massive amount to electrical waste. In their T&C's that they send to retailers they give a £15 credit (recycling fee) for the disposal of the old product. The old product is to strictly not be used or re-registered again or the retailer will be punished or loose their partnership. I think it's disgusting that Sonos are playing a huge role in generating unnecessary waste. All these units are perfectly fine and working but are to be disposed of for no reason other than that Sonos want to make money. Yes Sonos are giving a £15 credit for recycling but retailers won't and a
Hello, as I just received my SONOS ROAM I have tried many times today to get it connected in Bluetooth by following the procedure as described in that link.https://support.sonos.com/s/article/4989?language=frSo I kept pressing the button at the back but the blue light never went on and as a consequence the product had been left undiscovered for my mobile phone. Is there anyone who encountered the same issue & what should I do to get it solve. Thanks for your help
Hi! I am having issues connecting my Sonos Amp (Black) to my Klipsch SW-311 10-Inch Subwoofer (or vice-versa). I currently have two Klipsch speakers and the Klipsch Subwoofer connected to the Sonos Amp. Both speakers play but I am getting no sound from the subwoofer. The subwoofer is connected to the sub port on the Sonos Amp and the LFE port on the sub. The sub plays when connected to my Yamaha system but doesn't play when connected to the Sonos Amp. Is my sub's connection wrong? Will a sub with a built-in amp not work with the Sonos Amp? What am I doing wrong? Help please... Jale01
I'm a little surprised pre-orders opened up and nobody is taking about it :-) Delivery by Dec 3rd according to Sonos which is awesome. I'm currently using a Beam and two Sonos Ones for rears and two stereo HomePods for music in the living room and bedroom as well as smart speakers for Homekit etc. I was planning on buying a Sonos sub tomorrow since they will be on sale for $599. I'm not sure if I will do that now since I am getting the Amp so soon and can use any sub so there seems to be little advantage to the Sonos sub. The Elacs are on sale right now so I could get tower speakers and sub from them for $669 from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07B4WFWZF/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DL7XWBZ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 I will continue to use the Sonos Ones as rears. Any thoughts on any of that? Any advantage to buying a Sonos sub for the app? I can't think of one. What are other peoples pla
As many of us are being thrown off of our CR100's, and forced onto an external third party device, please use this thread to say what device you will use or have tried, and advise what settings and configurations make it work. Please keep it on topic, use the "Save the CR100" thread to put the world to rights on the bricking of our functioning devices. Life must go on, The CR100 will die, lets try to help each other find our best solution. To start, I have just purchased a Lenovo Tab 7 Essential, 7" screen so similar overall size to the controller, ordered through Tesco Direct, very fast service available in 3 hours from ordering. Tesco added a discount so got it for £62, although They advertised it as the Tab 4 7" which is actually a different unit with slightly higher res and should retail at £99 rather than £69 anyway its fine at the right price. both run Android 7.0 So set it up with no security as I don't want a pin entry each time I pick it up. Installed Sono
Not as much talk about yesterdays sonos anouncment as I would have expected from such a passionate community. So what are people thinking? Obviously Amazon Echo has impacted SONOS but how do you go from hiring new people and planning a retail store to cutting staff? What's next ? Should we be concered about making more current investments in sonos hardware (I really want to buy a sub)? People have been posting for months about voice support and for years about DTS. The standard response is sonos doesn't comment on future enhancements or new products. We know what we have today and there pretty darn good products but we all want to be excited and look forward to what's coming next.
There have been a few suggestions, but they were targeted toward a single problem (or single tag/format). This thread is for an official request for Sonos to support multiple values per tag as per officially defined specifications. Please add your support if this is something you would like Sonos to implement. I'm not sure there is much to debate, the file formats clearly lay out the specification. It's simply a case of Sonos supporting multiple values (or not). Note that this thread is not recommending some bespoke implementation, or a particular user's idea of how it should be done, using rules or preferences, or complex strings (if X is Y and A is B etc). It's a case of just supporting the format as officially specified. My hope is that the Sonos library index is not a flat file, but a relational data structure. If it's the latter, it's not impossible to add multiple values per track (one-to-many relationship). Database normalization for the developers out there. If
Since the switch to Youtube Music (from Google Play Music), has anyone else noticed audio glitches periodically in the music they listen to via Youtube Music in the the Sonos App?Every so often in a song I get a quick static glitch sound. This does not happen with other sources, like Sonos Radio or Bandcamp.
Sound cutting in and out on my Sonos Arc after playing Dolby Atmos content on Apple TV 4K I’ve had my Sonos Arc and Sub Gen 3 for about two weeks now and I’m very satisfied with the sound quality, but I’m having some very annoying issues with audio cutting in and out… I have the latest LG OLED TV, a LG GX (same as the CX, just wall mounted). The only two boxes I have hooked up to my TV is an Apple TV 4K and a PS4 Pro, but I’m having sound issues on my Apple TV.Before I explain the problem, yes, I’ve pretty much done all the troubleshooting I can do. Plug everything in and out, check that the cables is properly connected, updated everything, the Arc, TV and Apple TV, everything should be up to date as I’m writing this post. Okay, so here’s the issue, with a half ish solution. My issue: If I play any content that supports Dolby Atmos on iTunes, Apple TV+, Netflix etc. and try to play some music through the Apple Music app or watch any video on YouTube on my Apple TV after that, the audi
Hi, begrudgingly having to replace my connect as the connect is the beginning of my mesh network & I will not be able to separate my system. Any forum members picked up a Port to replace their connect? I am running my current Connect through an Arcam Rdac into a classic NAD 3020. Any one experienced a degradation in sound quality using the Port? The recent ‘What Hifi’ review has made this potential purchase even more of a quandary. Didn't fancy shelling out the £279 before. The fact that this might actually be an inferior product to the connect makes me doubt it even more. i don’t want to get into a ‘bun fight’ about DACs & ‘subjectivity’ only want to hear from people who have actually upgraded please Any input greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
With all the recent reports and issues with the WannaCry ransomware I wanted to restrict use of SMB v1 on my home network. My NAS blocks this to the outside world but I wanted to secure things internally as well. I can configure the NAS to not support SMB v1 but this then prevents the Sonos controller app from seeing the share. When will Sonos support later versions of SMB? I had seen another thread on this somewhere and it sounded like it wasn't going anywhere. Is it possible to get an update on this please.
We spend a lot of time grouping and ungrouping rooms. The issue is stems from my wife's use of Party Mode. She likes to use Party Mode while she is cooking. I ungroup the outside speakers so as not to offend the neighbors. I ungroup the upstairs when the kids go to bed. I turn everything off and then create a new group to set the morning alarm. In the morning, I create a group in the kitchen and family room to read the paper. There has to be a better way! Why can't we just create groups of rooms and label them something easy to remember like "Cooking", "Kids in bed", "Alarm" or "Morning Coffee"?
First of I want to say that I have been using Sonos products since 2009. Besides Sonos, I had a lot of gear but none of it could match Sonos's ease of use and sound quality (for the price). I have to come clean and say that I am used to using Sonos everywhere and I love it. As an audiophile, I was looking to replace my aging Sonos Connect with Port and realized from all the reviews that it does not have a better digital output. This was a show stopper for me and it is a show stopper for all audiophiles out there. You are missing a very important niche of the market. It is taken by Raspberry Pie implementations and Bluesound and Aurelia, not because they have better software or support for services, but because they have a better digital output. That is it. Nothing else. Everyone I have talked to said they like Sonos but the digital output is jittery. I have tried a lot of solutions and even they sound better than Connect over coax they are all not easy to use, do not have support for t
I have Deezer Elite and it's been skipping half way through tracks on a regular basis these last few days. Are others seeing this? I have no problem with local files or Internet radio stations (or even Netflix in the telly), so I think it must be a Deezer/Sonos interface thing?
