Life with Sonos
Life with Sonos. How do you get the most out of your Sonos system? Got any Sonos tips to share?
hi guys, I’m currently running a 5.1 setup in living room with Samsung q8 tv. It seems many people who are running a similar setup are having issues with the volume balance while watching content with 5.1 audio. I’m talking about an issue where dialogue sound is too low, while action sounds way too loud. I’m wondering if this is something Sonos will address in the future or are we just stuck with this. Sure I can turn on speech enhancement but that makes speech sound very high pitch and makes it sound way too cheap. Given the higher standard and attention to detailS Sonos put in to their products, I’m very disappointed by this. Hopefully this will be addressed soon...
New construction. I'm putting a Sonos soundbar on my living room TV connected to two in ceiling speakers in one zone and a TV with two in ceiling speakers on the patio in another zone. The "intelligent living" rep is telling me that I need a balun, connected to two ethernet cables to connect the patio TV to an amp that powers the two ceiling speakers because they don't run audio wire through walls. Does that sound right? Or can I just install an HDMI cable or a HiDef audio cable instead?
It would be really handy to have a "stop after this chapter", or "stop after [x] chapter" (accessed like the sleep timer options are) when playing an audio book. Quite often when putting them on for the kids at night the sleep timer will stop the story in the middle of the chapter, but it would be nice to be able to get sonos to automatically stop at the end of a predetermined number of chapters.
I listen to a local radio station here in Stamford ct and Sonos was playing fine till around 11am today. I got a request for a code upgrade, which has generally created issues with playing the radio. I upgraded, I rebooted both the play 3 and my WiFi but the station no longer plays. I heart on the stations website works fine. I found another station to play but would rather use the one I normally do. Suggestions?
QNAP TS-251+ NAS Firmware 4.3.6 Plex version 126.96.36.1991 Alexa fully up to date Sonos One - software latest version 10.3 Ogg's IDv3 tagged The issue is that although ogg audio files play perfectly through Plex when using either Windows 10 Sonos software or Android 9 Sonos App, if I ask Alexa to play an ogg audio file from Plex, Alexa confirms that it will play the file, but no sound comes from the Sonos One. If I request playback of a FLAC audio file, it plays perfectly. I have searched forums and found no answers.
Using the Sonos app on Android has been brilliant when playing long mp3's from local Plex server up until update 10.3. Before the update, the Sonos app was able to resume playback from last played position within a file but this has been lost after the update. Partially listened tracks start at the beginning every time. Nothing has changed in Plex - the library still has the correct settings around remembering position set. Any ideas if this feature will ever return?
I am building a new house and I am trying to think through the home theater in the basement. I would like to get a projector and use that for my PS4, Apple TV and a 4k Blu-Ray Player. I currently have those connecting to a TV in my living room with a Playbar, Sub, 2 x Play 1's. I would like to duplicate this setup (or maybe a Beam) but wanted to get some suggestions on how I can make this work with a projector. I can't seem to find a solid answer so especially if someone has done this before, please let me know your setup. Thanks!

Hi I use IOS app on my iPad to play the Criterion Channel... when I try to output audio to Sonos speakers, the video on the iPad disappears... how can this be fixed? Can iPad only output audio to Sonos, while retaining video on the iPad? I am not sure about the Netflix iOS app on Ipad; I hope it does not behave this way. thanks !!
Added a sub finally, it is mentioned that Sonos sub is designed to be on the floor but tried putting on top of TV cabinet next to Beam, is is a bad place for the sub? Oh what are you doing Sonos, seriously! I bought a iPod dock off you a few years ago, your recent updates would make this obsolete, I was unhappy with this because I like the dock, and chose not to update, happy-ish with this arrangement. But oh no, now I have a screen telling me to update, no progression unless I update. I bought units off you, I didn't expect you to make the same units obsolete, actually shame on you because your updates don't improve things for the listener. Time to sell my stuff
I would like to hook up two seperate sets of speakers to my new Sonos amp. One set would be outdoor and one set would be indoor. Has anyone had success using an A/B speaker selector switch with their Sonos Amp? If so which selector did you utilize.
