Question

SONOS BEAM + 2 Plays 1 positioning

Hi

For my living room...

I'm thinking of buying a SONOS Beam.

I already have two Play 1s set up as a stereo pair.

My question is about positioning.

Unfortunately the way my room and furniture is set up the Play 1s can only really go where they currently are. Which leaves them roughly in line with the TV. This means the Beam and Play 1s would be all up front in a row.

I know you can only set the Plays 1s as rear surround for TV and movies. So... will it sound odd ? Because the rear surround effect will be coming from the front of the room. Has anyone else had to do this, does it sound ok ?

Thankyou

Yes, it will sound odd.

Thanks

Has anyone else had to do this and had experience of whether it sounds ok ?

It cannot sound anything but odd.  5.1 surround mixes are created so the sounds travel behind you and to the sides, to give specific spatial cues to the sound.  As such, surrounds are highly directional, and if they are in front of you in the same plane as the fronts, you lose all spatial cues, and the front sound stage is muddied.
