I have 4 x Play One's, a playbase and a sub. Can I use all of these in a Sonos set up like 5.1?

A Sonos Home Theatre setup consists of a main player, like your Playbase, for example, which will handle the front left/right and center audio channels. To that you can ‘bond’ just two ‘matched’ speakers only, to handle the two rear channels. It’s also a case that either one, or two, Subs can be added to that setup.

Unfortunately you can’t ’bond’ the further two additional speakers into the setup, but you can ‘group’ them with the Playbar HT room, if you wish.

When you group the ‘other’ speakers to the HT however, you will see that it works extremely well for playback of music-audio via the Sonos App etc; but you will likely encounter a slight audio-delay (echo) when playing the TV audio,  due to the way the ‘grouping’ works. So you may notice lip-sync issues with the video on the TV screen.

There is a feature in the Sonos App to help with this audio delay in “Settings/System/[Playbase Room Name]/TV Dialog Sync" - if you adjust the slider bar towards the right-hand-side, it may assist to bring the audio into sync in some cases, but whilst it may eliminate the TV audio echo, it may not always keep it in lip sync with the video seen on screen… it’s a case of trying that feature to see if it works for you and your network/setup.

HTH.

Thank you for this information - the TV remote alters the overall volume will this be the case for the additional 2 speakers?

The TV ‘remote’ will usually only operate on the Sonos HT bonded system - the grouped rooms are operated separately, but there are several workarounds for controlling the volume simultaneously on all  - a Harmony remote, or hub, can be used to control the ‘group’ volume. So can the Sonos App. It can also be done with the Alexa voice assistant and via use of iOS shortcuts on an Apple device using the Soro App and Siri. Your native TV ‘remote’ however will ‘likely’ just control the audio on the one Sonos Room (the PlayBase and it’s own bonded surrounds in your case).
