Bought the playbase but TV has no optical input to connect to the playbase - can this be converted to support the HDMI connection?

You need to look for an Optical OUTPUT on your TV, this would then go to the Optical INPUT on the PlayBase.
Thanks Belly but there's no optical connection whatsoever on my TV - that's the dilemma I've got...

Ok... so you have HDMI then you could use something like this...

This works well if you have a sat / cable / dvd player. If you want the audio from normal TV channels then your TV needs to have ARC on the HDMI port to send the audio to the Flexon converter.

OR

If your TV has analogue outputs (RCA / phono connectors) the you can get another device that converts the analogue audio to digital coaxial.
