Building a house and I'm currently running ethernet cord throughout the house. I am hardwiring all of my Sonos throughout the house into my network to increase reliability...but I am not quite sure exactly how to wire my Sonos in the living room. I want to have 5.1 surround sound (Playbar, Subwoofer, Connect:Amp, rear ceiling speakers). The Playbar has two ethernet ports. I will have one ethernet port from a switch to the Playbar. And the other will go from Playbar to the Connect:Amp. (My understanding is I need to hardwire the Playbar and Connect:Amp, correct me please if that information is not true anymore). FYI, my network does allow for spanning tree protocol to be enabled (Google Wifi routers, unmanaged switches) Do I hardwire the subwoofer to the switch or do I need to have the subwoofer connect wirelessly via Sonosnet? Also, my wife has given me the following choices for location of the subwoofer 1) inside cabinetry underneath TV, 2) underneath couch facing TV, or
I purchased a Connect Amp to drive existing speakers along with the TV setup, playbar, sub and suround sound. The existing speakers inhances the sound, fuller, richer. The problem is ever the TV is turned on I have regroup the Connect Amp with the TV setup. Any posibilty of Sonos addressing this issue.
Sonos playbar linked to samsung tv via optical cable. Sound drops out now and then, say once an hour for just a second, and then recovers. I am running the beta software but the problem was their before I changed to the beta. Any advise please.
Hi Sonos, I just received my Playbar. I have a Sony Bravia 46" (KDL-46XBR2). It receives audio via an HDMI connection from the cable box. It is directly connected to the Playbar via the included optical digital audio cable. As I set up my Playbar, I am getting the message, "Sonos could not detect any audio from the TV." I have tried another optical cable. My TV doesn't necessarily have a "digital audio out" setting in the menu. It only has the option to turn the TV's speaker ON/OFF, though when I had the TV audio output going through component cables to a Play:5, it worked fine. Any troubleshooting steps?
Hi! New here, have done some searching and know this is a known issue. I was hoping someone had a workaround. I just bought the 55 inch Samsung KS8000 TV and am having trouble getting Sonos Playbar to work with the "smart" remote that came with the TV. I've tried setting the Playbar up as a Bose/JCV device on the TV with no luck. Does anyone have any information/advice as to how I can get this to work? I love the Playbar and the TV though would love them even more if they were connected :8
Hi all, Was wondering if anyone else is using the Octava HD41-ARC switch box to help get true Dolby 5.1 surround on their SONOS home theatre system? I've been using it a few months now and it's allowed me to get full 5.1 on almost all my TV inputs. So far I have DD 5.1 from my cable box and from my PS3 and it's pretty awesome. I am having one, very annoying limitation though-- my Chromecast 2nd Gen plugged into my Octava Box wont' give me DD 5.1, it only outputs in stereo. Seeing as this is my preferred method for watching Youtube and Netflix on my TV, it's really starting to bother me. There is no settings on the chomecast to force DD 5.1, essentially the chromecast has to realize that DD 5.1 is available and choose to output in that format all by itself. Does anyone know if there is any way to make the Octava box force Chromecast to output in DD 5.1? I know there's some sort of EDID management ability, but I can't really figure out how to use it.
Sorry if this has been posted or answered elsewhere, I could not locate anything. I have a Playbar connected to a Samsung F9000 via optical cable. All works well but for an annoying 'feature' in the timeout period which I believe is 10 minutes. So if the TVs audio is paused, muted or off for longer than 10m you have t select the source again. This of course means we have to find a device and select the source again, which is pretty frustrating, particularly if you have just sat down.. So, is there a way to turn this off or change the timeout period?
Hi all, while researching sonos before my purchase of home theater. I saw some info that some TV's can not pass through 5.1 surround. I didn't expect that to be a problem with my new Samsung 4K. Upon checking with Samsung it appears that there TV's will not pass through 5.1 surround to the playbar. can this be ? any Samsung owners care to tackle this one ?
Hi, Wanted to confirm whether I understand the Connect amp right as looking to us it in a small projector set up. My plan is to use an Amazon fire tv box, then taking the hdmi output use a splitter to separate the video and audio parts. The visual output would run straight to the projector (BenQ W1070+), the audio outputs would then run to the Sonos Connect Amp. This would be part of an existing wireless Sonos setup which consists of a Bridge and two Sonos play1. Would the Connect Amp, allow the audio signal from the Fire TV signal to be played through the Sonos Play1s? Or have I misunderstound how the Connect amp works? Thanks
Signal from the playbar is cutting out at random intervals (every 5- 10 minutes) for about 3 seconds. It had worked fine for the past 18 months. It is connected to a LG 4K tv that provides signal from Sky box: Searching on here it looks like a software issue but why has mine only kicked in now ? Diagnostic run - 6909423
We bought the Samsung 55" UHD curved LED Smart TV on Amazon Prime Day July 12, 2016 but its smart remote won't control my Playbar's sound. I'm using the Optical jack on the TV and can hear good sound from the Playbar, but can't control the volume. I used the Sonos Settings --> Remote Control Setup to no avail... The remote seems to use IR. Any ideas would be appreciated since both are 2016 models.
Hello, The Playbar I have connected to the TV and works perfectly when I connect the TV. The problem comes when I turn off the TV, after a few minutes it activates again and starts to play the music I have in the "Music library". It always happens. How can I prevent it from automatically activating after closing the TV? Greetings, Luis
Hi, I bought a SONOS Play 5 and as it is on my living room I would like to use it as a home theater as well. I have tried everything to connect it to my TV but is not working. I checked the model of my TV and it is delivering Dolby Digital but does not sound on the Play 5. I have used a RCA cable and AUX cable and still no sounds. When I play my music through the app or spotify the play 5 sounds perfect. Any help is appreciate. Thanks, José
Hi guys, I'm researching and considering investing in a playbar, sub and a couple of play speakers for my bedroom! I just want to confirm if they have made the stereo option available when playing sound from your TV whilst grouping all speakers together, i know it can defeat the purpose for a sound bar but i would love to have the option to play the sound through the play speakers closer to my head late at night to avoid awaking others around me? I checked out some threads of alot of people requesting the option but no result of whether it has come to fruition just yet! Cheers Joe
I want to use my Playbar as the external speaker on my Mac (instead of connecting the playbar to a TV). The problem is with an optical connection is you lose the volume controls on the keyboard. So the only way to control the volume will be to reach over to the physical buttons on the Playbar. Or switch to the OSX Sonos app and adjust the volume from there, but that is not very quick and you lose the focus on the current app. Is there any way to get universal keyboard shortcuts on the Mac to control the Playbar volume. I was thinking maybe some action script or similar to pick up the volume controls from the Sonos Mac app. Any ideas?
Do you guys turn up the Surround Sound speakers when using with a 5.1 setup? This is for watching movies and TV (not music). It's currently set to the "middle" option in Advanced Settings but sometimes it seems a bit low...I'd like to raise it a little bit but still want balanced sound. Let me know if you turn it up and if you do how many "clicks" up from the middle option do you set it? Thanks!
