Control Playbar volume via OSX

I want to use my Playbar as the external speaker on my Mac (instead of connecting the playbar to a TV). The problem is with an optical connection is you lose the volume controls on the keyboard. So the only way to control the volume will be to reach over to the physical buttons on the Playbar. Or switch to the OSX Sonos app and adjust the volume from there, but that is not very quick and you lose the focus on the current app. Is there any way to get universal keyboard shortcuts on the Mac to control the Playbar volume. I was thinking maybe some action script or similar to pick up the volume controls from the Sonos Mac app. Any ideas?

Do You Turn Up Surround Sound Speakers?

Do you guys turn up the Surround Sound speakers when using with a 5.1 setup? This is for watching movies and TV (not music). It's currently set to the "middle" option in Advanced Settings but sometimes it seems a bit low...I'd like to raise it a little bit but still want balanced sound. Let me know if you turn it up and if you do how many "clicks" up from the middle option do you set it? Thanks!

Speaker wire size for connect amp and 4 speakers (2 pairs)

I will be using a connect amp to wire 2 pairs of speakers (4 total speakers). I would like to use 12awg speaker wire, but I'm worried that I may not be able to fit two 12awg wires in each connect amp slot. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Playbar Sound

It seems that my playbar isn't as loud as it was, it seems it need to be at a higher volume level (much higher) than before. I know my hearing is okay before anyone says anything lol. Just wondered if anyone else has noticed this

I recently connected the Sonos Playbar to my Sony Smart TV and, after installing it, I can no longer access the apps on the TV. I get a message from the tv that says 'Please Wait And Try Again Later'. Has anyone experienced this before?

How to play TV audio on Play:1 with only DirectTV and XBox

Hi - new to Sonos and received a Play:1 as a gift - great sound and considering a second, but before I do, I wanted to wrap my head around how best to play TV audio on my Plays. With all the hype of watching the big game on Sonos, this must be easy but I can't think of how with the equipment i have. I would rather not get a Roku or Chomecast. I have DirectTV and XBox One. I could use an audio out from these but that makes little sense as it only goes to one device. How to get on the WiFi network? Has anyone done this?

Better Sonos Connect/Hub desperately needed

I'm looking for excuses to spend lots of money buying Sonos equipment throughout my house. I'm really disappointed in the available components for integrating with a TV setup for home theater: 1. There's the Connect:AMP, which is good for connecting to existing speakers. Though I want to ditch all other speakers and just have Sonos gear for simplicity. Also the AMP only has a single RCA in... no modern Smart TV has RCA audio out, making it impossible to connect without some other 3rd party component like a DAC. 2. There's the simpler Connect, which crazily enough also only has RCA inputs... how do you get an external 5.1 or other HD audio signal in?? 3. The only remaining option is the Playbar, which sounds good at first since it has an Optical in. But also does not support HD audio, only the older Dolby Digital 5.1. Also, many TVs are not able to export a 5.1 audio signal over the optical out connection... so you're back to 2.0 stereo.. even if you buy additional Play 1/3.

Rear surround placement advice

I'm planning to use two Play 1s for my rear surround speakers but my room doesn't have a convenient way to place each speaker the same distance from the viewing position. The easiest setup would have the right rear located 6 feet behind the viewing position at a 45 degree angle (slightly elevated) and the left rear almost directly behind the viewing position. Does anyone have any experience with this? Would this arrangement totally compromise the surround experience.? Thank you!

Panasonic Viera Tools Netflix, 5.1 Output Issue

Hello, I have a panasonic P50S30 series plasma 50". Purchased the Playbar recently and then realized that TV does not pass 5.1 from HDMI sources to Optical. However, since Viera tools have Netflix and Amazon Prime Video apps installed, it is supposed to be able to pass 5.1 DD thru the optical. It DOES in case of Amazon Video but Netflix only does Stereo? wonder if anyone seen a similar issue? Looked up on Netflix support, they say try changing the audio setting. I did not find Audio or CC setting on Viera Netflix App on my TV? Any help?

Sonos Playbar and Digital Audio out from Samsung TV

I am having samsung UE37C5100 connected to playbar. Weird behavior here: i listen the same TV program directly and audio level is pretty low. If i listen to the same program while in PIP with the main set to DVI (PC output) the audio level is higher. Anyone is having similar issue? Thanks. I am on Sonos 7.

Tv sound dropping out

Hi there, I have our TV going to the line in on a Connect. This is then linked to two Play1s setup as a stereo pair for stereo sound from the TV. The sound drops out intermittently though. It can be fine for an hour then drop out a lot for 10 mins then fine again? I submitted diagnostics and got this number: 6910312

Controlling Sonos Playbar with Apple Siri Remote (on setup without CEC)

Having some frustrating issues trying to setup the Apple Siri Remote to control the volume of my Sonos Playbar. Hope anyone has an idea to what I might be doing wrong or if it's even possible to get this working with my setup. As I'm using a professional display (NEC) the display (TV) does not support optical out or CEC. The display is programmed to automatically turn on/off based on the presence of HDMI signal. I am using an audio stripper to extract the audio signal from HDMI, convert it to optical and feed it to the Playbar over a toslink connection. My setup is as follows: - Apple TV 4 HDMI out -> Audio Stripper HDMI in - Audio Stripper HDMI out -> Display HDMI in - Audio Stripper toslink out -> Sonos Playbar toslink in The system is working and audio is playing without issues through Playbar and surround speakers. However I am not able to make the Playbar learn the Volume +/- of the Siri Remote. When following the instructions from Sonos it recommends to use an

Playbar connecting to wireless

I have moved the TV, Sky box and Playbar in lounge - so now not able to connect via Ethernet directly to router. I am struggling to get Playbar working again as won't connect wirelessly only via an Ethernet cable - any advice?

Temporary playbar outage when router is restarted

Hi All, First time poster I find it odd that the play bar temporarily looses sound when the router is restarted when watching TV even though audio is via direct connection from TV to bar. Play bar is wired to router via CAT 6 and whole system is running on Sonosnet. Anyone know why? Thanks in Advance Contemplative

What is the correct way to set up my *Single-Room* Sonos Sound System?

Trying to correctly set up a Sonos System in my Man Cave (Only ONE SINGLE ROOM) with a TV, Playbar, Subwoofer, Connect or/and Connect Amp, Sony Receiver and 6 In-Ceiling Speakers. Here's my situation: I am in one room and one room only. It is a very large Man Cave. For starters, I have 6 In-Ceiling Speakers all hardwired through the ceilings/walls back to one universal location on my bar. I also have an ethernet cable hardwired back from my router to the same location as all of the speaker wire. Along with these 6 In-Ceiling speakers, I have a TV, a Sonos PlayBar, a Sonos Sub-woofer, a Sonos Connect, and a Sony Receiver. My plan was to take all of my speaker wire (6) and hardwire those into the back of my Sony Receiver. Then I would place my Sonos Connect right next to the receiver, hardwire the Connect into the Receiver, and hardwire the ethernet into the Connect. Then simply plug in the subwoofer to a wall outlet. And lastly, direct connect the sound bar (PlayBar)

playbar roku ultra and aquos tv

i've got an aquos tv that will not pass the sound through an optical cable to the soundbar while a a roku is playing. If I plug the optical cable into my older apple tv i get sound (although quiet). Unfortunately it will not play Plex. Can I hook up a new Roku Ultra and have it work like my apple tv?

Playbar Connected - But No Sound

I have Vizio M70-C3 TV. I have connected the sound bar but there is no sound coming from the Playbar. I see the Playbar in the Sonos App and I can play music to it. I unplugged the optical cable at the Playbar and it has a red light. I set the digital out to bitstream on the TV On the desktop App I selected the source as TV for the Playbar. The set up program seemed to go OK. The first time I did it I had PCM listed as output on the TV and setup reported it could not communicate with the TV. When I changed it to bitstream it reported that it could. The TV is a 2015 model. The Playbar is connected by wired Ethernet. I don't see any reason that the Playbar should not be working unless it is defective in some respect. Before sending back I wanted to see if there were any suggestions. Thanks.

Set up surround sound with older Sonos speakers

Currently have: a ZP 90 connected to Modem; 2 Sonos SP 100 speakers connected to a ZP 120; Sonos Controller; a Samsung 8500 TV. Also have a Zonebridge 100, which I never used. Just purchased a Sonos Playbar as well as a SUB as well as a Sonos boost, but don't know if needed. I would like to use the Sonos speakers along with player and sub and don't want to mess anything up in this wonderful system to listen to music and watch TV. Any help, much appreciated. Thanks.

Is Dolby Digital Bitstream passing 5.1 DD Surround?

I'm trying to get 5.1 Surround from my Panasonic TX-P50VT30 to the Playbar via SPDIF (using a optical adapter). So far I only see "Stereo" in the Playbar sound input and I have tested with my Apple TV3, HDMI from Macbook Pro and HDMI from PS3. According to the manual the SPDIF port should pass Dolby Digital Bitstream when selecting "Multi channel" on the TV menu. And as I understand the manual, the TV can pass DTS, Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby Digital Bitstream: http://www.manualslib.com/manual/649718/Panasonic-Tx-P55vt30b.html?page=89#manual I am aware that Playbar does not support DTS. So I'm just wanting a 5.1 signal very much and all I get is "Stereo" in the Sonos "About" section. Frustrating! So, is Dolby Digital Bitstream NOT 5.1 DD? And which SPDIF splitter/converter is recommended, if I need a very small one to hang on the wall behind the TV? (I only need one or two HDMI inputs) All best Anders B.

Trueplay with Playbar?

I received an email from Sonos informing me that Trueplay was now available for Playbar if I had version 7 of the software which I do (I have 7.0.1 on all my iOS devices). When I went to check the apps Trueplay wasn't there for the Playbar. I checked online updates in the app and it says "up to date". Just wondering if there was another update coming or, was Trueplay pulled from availability?
