Help with getting 5.1 from PC via Flexion switch

Hello. I just bought a playbar and sub and some play ones as surround speakers. Looking at my TV (Panasonic TH65VT65) apparently it won't output 5.1 over optical for HDMI sources (if I'm wrong let me know!).

So I bought the Flexion three way HDMI switch with sonos audio extractor via optical.

Everything else plugged through this switch works fine. However in my PC sound settings, I can see two devices. My Panasonic TV, which is stereo only, and the Realtec HD Audio device.

Problem is, when I set the sound device default to the Realtec, I can't hear anything even when I disable every further except Dolby digital. But when I select the Panasonic TV I can hear sound but I don't think I'm getting 5.1.

Any idea? I've tried using HDMI 1 and 2 (the ARC channel) but no joy.

Anyone able to suggest a fix that might work?
