View originalControlling Sonos volume with Sony remote control
In order to control the volume of a sound system through my Sony TV/remote is to connect to the tv with a HDMI cable. The Sonos sound bar connects with a optical audio cable so I cannot use the remote to control the volume of the Sonos. Can anything be done.

The connection between the Sonos and your TV has no bearing on being able to use your remote. The three Sonos soundbars all have IR receivers in them so that they accept the normal volume commands that you would normally send to the TV, all you need to do is set the Sonos up to recognize that IR signal.
If you’ve already set up your soundbar, you can set up the remote by going in to the controller, selecting ...More, then settings. Choose Room Settings, and then the room that has your soundbar. Near the bottom should be an area labeled TV & Remote, where you can set up your soundbar to recognize the appropriate data.
