Advice: Arc placement on mantel

I’ve heard it recommended (and understand the reasoning) that the Arc should be placed on the edge of a cabinet/stand so that the full range offorward facing speakers won’t be partially blocked/reflect up, but I was wondering how noticeable of an impact that really has? My TV is over a mantel and the Arc will fit nicely up there, but my wife isn’t wild about it being on the edge. For visual appeal it would look best in a position that is probably 3-4” back from the ledge of the mantel. Just wondering if it’ll distort the sound to the point it’s not worth the money for the Arc to have it sit back a bit--or is it not that big of a deal in the scheme of things? Your thoughts/perspective are greatly appreciated! (FYI As far as the up firing speakers, these will regardless of position be plenty out from the TV—so that’s good for the Atmos.)

Hi @jstruck, thank you for reaching out to the Sonos community. I appreciate you for letting us know your concern.  I’d be happy to help you all here.

The Sonos Arc was designed to use a tabletop orientation by sitting on a surface, or to be wall-mounted below your TV. If you plan on using Arc in an entertainment center, we do recommend at least 5.5 inches to be clear above Arc so the up-firing speakers have enough room to create crisp, vertical channels. The Arc smartly detects when it is attached to the mount and automatically adjusts the EQ to temper bass resonance from the wall. You can adjust the bass, treble, balance, or loudness of your Sonos speakers can be done in a few simple steps using the Sonos app depending on your preferred sound. You can tune your Sonos speakers with Trueplay. Trueplay measures how sound reflects off walls, furnishings, and other surfaces in a room, then fine-tunes your Sonos speaker to make sure it sounds great no matter where you've placed it.

We can wait for suggestions and feedback from our Sonos community members, they might provide a suggestion about this. You may also contact our Sales specialist for more information. If you need help with any other information, please be sure to let us know.
