Yes, while the Sonos app is open and in the foreground, you can use the iPhone Volume keys to control the volume of the Sonos system.

Thanks for that but wanted to control on the vol keys after the iPhone is locked like you can when playing music outside the Sonos app?

You can with a third party app SONOMOTE: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/sonomote/id803292331?mt=8
You can also, in the app, click anywhere on the line below (to lower the volume) or above (to increase the volume) the dot and the volume will adjust in a single increment.
