Tidal artists not listed in alphabetical order

Currently, Tidal artists are listed in the order they were added to favorites rather than alphabetically. This makes it very difficult to find a particular artist when scrolling though hundreds of artists. This problem should be easy to correct. Bluesound lists artists in alphabetical order.

Hi cdr1, Welcome to the community!

You are correct, this is how they are currently displaying, this is due to the behavior of Tidal's API at the moment, the Sonos controller display's what it is fed from the respective service. We are aware of how annoying is and are actively working with tidal to improve the listing of Artists within the favorites container. The Work around would be to use the search functionality to find the artist, we appreciate this isn't always the simplest as you get results for the whole streaming catalog rather than just from within your favorites. Be assured we are working on it and thanks for the feedback.

Surely this is merely a couple of button-clicks and a simple piece of code to make this happen guys? Such a small change could make so many of us Tidal-users much happier!

Is it too much to ask to have artists listed alphabetically?!

Music service providers (ie Tidal in this case) are entirely responsible for the order of items they present, the controllers never mess with it, as they have no idea when it makes sense to do so, and when it does not. It does seem like it would be a trivial fix by the Tidal devs, but maybe they can't read the Perl they originally wrote??

Any update on this as it's now 4 months old? Really annoying that I can list artists alphabetically in Tidal but Sonos will not reflect that.

Suggest asking that question in a Tidal support forum.

Sent a query to Tidal Support, if they reply with anything useful I'll report back.

As expected Tidal point the finger squarely ay Sonos for this issue....

"Hello,

Thank you for contacting TIDAL Member Support

Please contact the Sonos Support Team as they developed the interface with the TIDAL backend and should be able to help resolve your issue.

The docs for the interface say "return the items in the order you want them displayed". Tidal are clearly not doing this. Evidently they also don't care. Suggest switching to service that gives a rip.

So your 3rd party app deoesn't work properly with Tidal either then? If there's another lossless streaming service out there I'd love to hear about it...

You mean Tidal playlists don't list alphabetically with my app? Yes, my app behaves in the exact same way as the official apps, because it follows the same SMAPI specification. Controller apps never sort the content, By Design.

A quick web search reveals Deezer Elite and Qobuz as other lossless services that support Sonos. I don't know which geography you are located in, so can't say if you can get those.

Okay so now you're saying Sonos (the controller app) is at fault, previously you were blaming Tidal??? I can list my artists aplhabetically in Tidal without issue, I just want Sonos to be the same.

You misunderstood. The SMAPI is designed so the service partner has control over the look of their presentation on the Sonos app. This includes sorting order(s), playlists displayed, feature content highlighted, etc. Sonos does not meddle with the services intent on purpose, deferring responsibility to the service to maintain their own intended experience. So as stated, it is up to the service to supply the functionality you seek.

I am also tired of scrolling through hundreds of artists that are not in alphabetical order. Earlier, someone suggested switching to a different service. If you like Tidal, Bluesound products are a great option. The Bluesound app will list Tidal artists in alphabetical order. Bluesound's audio quality is excellent and their tech support is outstanding. I don't know if Tidal or Sonos is at fault, but it is frustrating that we are still requesting this while Bluesound and Tidal have managed to cooperate to solve such a fundamental issue.

I've played with both Deezer and Qobuz as alternatives, Qobuz has it's own issues listing artists alphabetically. I still much prefer Tidal and will probably stick with it (at least until Spotify release their HiFi service), switching to a different h/w solution isn't an option at the moment. I've reached out to Sonos Support via Twitter and will keep on their case until they acknowledge the issue. Tidal say that if there's an issue then it's reliant on Sonos to work with them to resolve.

Just checking to see if any progress has been made on alphabetizing Tidal artists in the last year. Any news?

As stated above, the look and feel of each service's UI in the Sonos app is up to the service itself, not Sonos. This is 100% Tidal's problem, not Sonos'. Sonos couldn't fix it even if they chose to.
