Following update to Mac desktop controller I received prompt to change system settings to allow the app to control my computer. That sounds ominous. If I allow control, what can the Sonos app do?

It is probably asking to share your music folder with Sonos, so that Sonos can play your local library. Sonos is read only, it will never write or delete anything to/from your library. Not ominous at all.
